Default 382 VS H/C

I am looking to upgrade my engine in my 98 Z28 in the future, and was wondering what everyones opinion was on if the extra money spent on a new 382 all bore block or a stroker kit is worth it, ecspecially with some of these new heads cam packages putting out just about as much power for less money. Thanks for any replies

I beleive there is a misconception that these latest heads/cam packages are making more power than what a larger displacement LSx motor can do. Because the same heads/cam technology that has been learned can be applied to the larger motors.

All the comparisons I have seem are comparing new tech H/C packages, to older tech big inch motors.

You cant really compare a stroker kit to a heads and cam kit just bcause theyre makin about the same numbers. Its like comparing apples and oranges. Yea they might put up around the same peak numbers, but look at the curve on the dyno graph, theyre completly different. The bigger cubes will make "better power". Go to the sponsors web sites and look at heads and cam dyno graphs and then the long block dyno graphs, youl see what im talkin about

Stroker motors will make a ton more hp down low and torque will come on alot earlier too. So now that we have 474rwhp with heads/cam we should be seeing 500+rwhp 383's here soon too right? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Roll Eyes]" src="images/icons/rolleyes.gif" />

Yeah I know you cant beat the low end torque of the larger cube motors. How easy do you think it would be to put down 500 Horespower with a 382

There are quite a few big inch LSx's out there into the 500+rwhp right now.

Stock cube engines are finally going to the next level. Even the torque curve is close to a 383. Read up. Strokers should be next. LS1's have been around for only 6-7 years. I don't think all the power has been tapped yet.

In fact, I wouldn't be too surpised to see an all-bore 382 with one of the latest super-whammy H/C packages from LGM or Cartek lay down 525+, just from the increase in displacement and the unshrouding of the valves in the cylinder.
