Engine Replacement Question
I was thinking about something today and wanted to run it by you guys. My car currently only has 55,000 miles on it - so I know I can get a lot more time out of it.
BUT, if I wanted to upgrade or change the motor before 100,000 miles, what would be the best route to go? Swap in a new LS1? An LS2? I'm sure getting another LS1 would be the easiest and least expensive way to go. But for an extra $1,200 one could upgrade to the LS2 and have 50 more HP.
My main goals would be still passing emissions and ease of installation - which is why I think simply putting in a new LS1 would be the way to go.

better idea you havent thought of......keep your block....stroke it...a 383 set up is great and not near as expensive as replacing a motor....do that and H/C the motor youll beat a ls2 all day

At 100K, I figured I'd buy a new motor (either a stock LS1 and stroke it) or a crate motor (LS2 or LS6).

a BLOCK....isnt going anywhere...how often do you hear about blocks breaking...some do but not ANYWHERE near the internals in them....a 100,000 mile block that gets cleaned up and stroked is like a brand new motor....
a forged stroked motor is very reliable and alot more feasible then just buying a crate motor

Thats not bad at all. I remember reading a thread where a guy talked about the reliability issues with a stroker - but I think he had something bigger than a 383. I'm sure the larger you go, the more potential for issues exist.
