Default Would you buy headers with the AIR fittings?

Just curious....any reasons to absolutely not have AIR fittings on LTs?

I know a lot of people !AIR to clean up the engine bay/weight savings/etc....but any performance reasons?

None. We always just cut them off around here if they are on there, and weld the hole over.

And that's something that any exhaust shop should be able to handle right?

I have a pair with the fittings and HATE them. I wanted them just in case I ever wanted to pass emmisions, but they are in the way all the time and one of my plug wires is in constant contact with one of them. I wish I didn't have them.

It's something that any idiot buddy with a welder can do in 10 minutes. Screw taking it to the shop. Just cut them off, pinch the tube together with pliers, etc., and weld shut. DONE!

The main reason not to get them is they break off - on all brands of headers. And, Murphy's law being what it is, it tends to happen at a most inconvenient time.

Yeah, I've heard that even using block off plates can increase the chances of the AIR flange breaking off.

Yeah, I think I will just make sure that I wind up without them from the manufacturer.

ditch the AIR system. it will make your engine bay much cleaner, and it will be easier to change spark plugs. AIR is really only used for the first couple minutes that the car is running to heat up the CATs. once the cats are heated up, the air system doesnt play much of a role anymore. no inspection shop will ever notice them missing.

I had to get emissions compliant headers and high flow cats, because my buddy that's installing all of this stuff in the shop that he works at has been told that the home office is installing cameras in all of their exhaust bays because the state now fines shops that don't correct emissions problems or remove emissions parts can be fined $25,000 and the car gets impounded. It sucks but I got a stupid crazy deal on my ceramic coated Hookers from a certain mail-order speed parts place...

Do NOT buy headers with the fittings, if you have to install yourself, whatever then do it, don't buy them with the fittings. The fittings blew off both headers on my car, and the 2nd one happened at the worst possible time, as I was coming out of the burnout box @ a pinks allout shoot @ mir in june. I would like to HANG the ******* that told me back when I bought the headers that I had to have that crap on for the emmissions stuff, which was all removed and the car still went thru (air doesn't work right once the headers and aftermarket cats go on anyway so it's pointless)
