Non LS1 question for you experienced mechanics.
Well my girlfriend's dad made me a pretty sweet offer last week. He has a 1994 Chrysler New Yorker with about 90k on it. And he said if I could get it running, I could have it no charge at all. Well, I thought I would atleast give him a dollar for it. When you put the key in and turn it you get some dim dash lights but the motor doesn't turn over or you don't hear the click from the starter. Could this just be a dead battery or a bad starter? Should you still hear the click from the starter? If it is some sort of electrical problem under the hood, isn't there a way to bypass everything and just run some wires from the battery straight to the starter? Any advice would be helpful. I was hoping to go check it out today. Thanks guys.

Yes, you could do that.
If the battery is way dead, it won't have enough juice to even engage the solenoid (the clicking sound you'd hear if it couldn't spin the starter).
Try another battery. If that doesn't work, then you've got some other issue.
Check the battery cables for excessive corrosion on both ends - the battery end, and the starter end. You might get lucky and have it be something simple like this.

Well, I just got back from checking out the Chrysler. We charged the battery and the lights and stereo worked and stuff. But no click when you go to start it. So we jacked up the car, took a screw driver to the starter. (I'm not a mechanic, so anything I say might be said wrong). Anyways, we took a screwdriver and connected where I think the ignition wires comes to the starter and connected to the hot lead from the starter. A couple of cranks later it started right up. Now it has been sitting for a about 2 years, so we shut it off after about 30 seconds. Fresh oil and gas and it should be good to drive home. That is next weeks plan. Not bad for 1 dollar though. LOL. So would the probelm be just the ignition wire cut or disconnected somewhere?

As soon as I get the car home I will check the starter. Also, when I got the car started, the motor was ticking pretty loud. I'm hoping with some fresh oil and a tune up the ticking will subside. Anyone own any Chryslers???
