What Ocatane Gas is suggested on an 00 TA I know that premium gas is recomended, but is it going to hurt if i run 87 ocatane gas in it? I originally put 93 in it, but asked a guy I know that owns a vette and he said his ran fine with 87 octane. So thats what I have been using and there seems to be no problem, but i just wanted to make sure I'm not going to hurt anything.

You're not going to hurt anything as long as all is stock. G.M. anticipates people running the crappiest gas out there, so MOST cars a designed to use it. Only a couple are not, the 'vette, some caddy's, the Soltice GXP, and SS Cobalt (supercharged). You'll be fine.

if the manual says premium, run premium.
that $10 you save at the pump every couple weeks is totally worthless when you need to replace an engine because you were a cheapass and wanted to run 87.

Haha, regular gas is not going to blow up your engine if you are careful. If you hear any pinging, back off the throttle. I've run regular before in a pinch or right before pay day, and it runs fine, has good throttle response, but no mid and top end. Dont put it under a bunch of load, or beat on it if its hot out, and you can run regular. But don't make it a habit.

you know why it has no top end?
because your ecu is pulling timing because you are pre-igniting.
you cant always hear "pinging." always remember that. its the one you dont hear that blows your engine.

On the average its a whole 4-5 dollars more to put premium in rather than 87! I always run 91 or better. 5 bucks isn't that much, for that extra little bit of performance and safety....

If you are having problems affording premium gas and want to change to regular to save money then 1. YOU ARE IN THE WRONG HOBBY and 2. YOU BOUGHT THE WRONG CAR. I hear hondas are nice and get great gas mileage. The manual says to run premium....then run premium. The stock compression level and timing tables are too high to risk running regular and hoping the computer will pull back the timing on its own.

From everything I have ever heard, 91-93 octane is suggested for the LS1 motor. of course you could always have it tuned to run 87with longevity in mind, but like somelse stated, if you are trying to save money at the pump, you are in the wrong car.

I alternate 89-93 when I fill up, and it runs well. Even in 100* heat. I learned my lesson when I first got my car, I took it to the dyno the same day at G-force. Before I got there I put in a few gallons of 89 octane and it detonated on the dyno. I still made 315hp bone stock but you can see where it detonated, 363 ft-lbs peak torque!!

It just said that premium was suggested, it didn't say I had to. After hearing what everyone had to say, I will definetly run premium from now on. I have only ran about 8 tanks of 87 through it, hopefully it will be ok. I also know this car is going to cost me a lot with mods, gas, and all the other stuff. I have the money to afford it, but i figured if I could save a few bucks, i would. Allright, heard you guys loud and clear, premium from now on!

I was told by a vette guy, that i thought knew his stuff, that it doesn't hurt a thing and he runs it in his vette all the time. Trust me, there is no way in hell I would ever try and do something to my car if it was going to mess it up. The whole point of this thread was for me to get the right info from you guys, cause i was told different and had second thoughts about it.
