Crazy Oil Consumption
So my low oil light came on today on the way to work. I get to work, pop the hood, and pull the stick. Shows way low oil, below the add oil lines, and steam coming out of the dipstick tube. I just changed the oil about 2000 miles ago. Is this just the same consumption problem? Its not making any noises from the bottom end, and I still have normal oil pressure. I read that the light only comes on at 2 qt's low.
Ive read about using a new PCV valve called a fixed orafice. Anyone used one with success?

depends on the car honestly. Mine was burning about 2 quarts every oil change. Instead of doing the catch can i re-routed the PVC lines to each other valve cover to valve cover and put a little breather on the oil cap to vent out the engine. Seems to be helping been about 2 k and the oil hasnt dropped a bit

Figured out today that it really only burnt about a quart. Dont know why the light came on, but I put 1.5 quarts in and it is almost too much oil. Im putting the fixed orafice PCV valve on tomorrow and will see how that does.

According to Gm up to 2 quarts per 1000miles is acceptable for a new GM vehicle. If you EVER go above 3k rpm. that classifies you as a hard driver and puts you in severe conditions. So 6 quarts per 3k miles is perfectly fine.
In grandma like driving conditions 1 quart per 1k miles is acceptable for new gm engines

+1 for the catch can. EVERY LSX car should come with one. It will stop a crap load from getting in, you'll see if you get one. I clean it out every oil change, it works.
Peace,
Craig.
