Default My 383 gets a FAST 90/90, set of YT Ultralite RRs & SD Tune

It was time to kick it up a notch on my LS6-based forged 383 and get a FAST 90 with LS2 90mm TB, a set of new Yella Terra 1.7 Ultralite Roller Rockers and a SD tune. Ed Hutchings (edcmat-l1) at Automotive Technology, Inc. in Chesapeake, VA did the installation and SD tuning.

Check out the complete thread here: CF message thread

I asked Ed for a conservative tune with a richer A/F ratio in the mid-section of the powerband since I track my C5 often at road course events (HPDE). The following is a list of engine and powertrain mods for reference:

LS6 383 Forged Engine by ECS
AFR 205 Mongoose Heads 61cc with - 5cc Diamond Pistons
Futral Motorsports 239/243 .612/.617 113+3 cam
Comp Cam 921 Dual Valve Springs with Titanium Retainers
7.400” Chrome moly Hardened Pushrods
Yella Terra Ultralite 1.7 Roller Rockers
Melling Performance Duty Lifters
FAST 90 Intake Manifold - Ported by Vengeance Racing
GM LS2 90 TB - Ported and Polished by Vengeance Racing
Callaway Honker Cold Air Intake (CAI)
Rollmaster Double-Roller Hardened Adjustable Timing Set
American Racing 1 ¾” Stainless Steel Long Tube Headers
Random Technology High Flow Catalytic Converters
Canton Oil Cooler Thermostat 215*
DeWitts Performance Aluminum Radiator
Canton 3 Quart Oil Accusump
GM T1 Transmission Cooler
GM Z06 Power Steering Cooler
Mobil 1 0W40 Synthetic Oil
Ported LS6 Oil Pump
AMW Oil Catch Can
Powerbond 25% Under Drive Pulley
K-tech Adjustable Belt Tensioner
Granatelli 8mm GM Performance Spark Plug Wires (1200* High Temperature Boots)
NGK TR55-IX Iridium Spark Plugs
42# Fuel Injectors
RPS Single Disc Clutch with Aluminum Flywheel
RPM Transmission “Level V” MN6 Transmission
DTE Stage 2 Micro-polished 3.73 gear set with 300M HD Output Shaft

Killer power under the curve. Love the big-block torque at 3000 rpm. Just what you'll need coming out of those slow corners on the road course. Nice job by Ed Hutchings!

Thanks Ron, Thanks Patrick!!!
What the dyno doesnt show is the difference in throttle response from the tune. It went from being really soft, to friggin brutal on tip in. It'll blow the tires off in first and second with the trac control on.

Congrats Mike and Ed.

I really like the fact that Ed's dyno runs chart down to 2k RPM. It really tells you what's going on.

Thanks everyone. My C5 does feel like a "new" vette since Ed performed his magic! I'm looking forward to running it at the Virginia International Raceway (VIR) road racing course at the end of this month for four days to put it through its paces. It's definitely going to surprise a few new Z06 and Porsche GT3 drivers there. Thanks Ed!

Ed is planning to come out to Virginia International Raceway (VIR) on either 31 August or 1 September during an HPDE to data log a few sessions with me at speed to refine the higher end of the VE table and do some more R&D. I'll follow up with a full report on its performance on the track. Now that's going "Above and Beyond"

This video at VIR Grand East was taken with the previous setup/tune doing a few very conservative laps with new brake pads, tires, etc.. I expect my lap times at the end of this month at VIR Full Course to be quicker by approx. 10 seconds. You'll have a great experience out there

I usually drive it to work in McLean and to an office I have at Fort Belvoir, but share the daily driving with an F250. The '04 has 30K miles - not too bad.

Mike,

When do I get a ride in that animal? Do I need a H.A.N.s device.
