Default C.A.R.B. Sucks! Best California Legal Headers

I have a 1999 camaro with flowmaster exhaust and i want a set of headers that are still 50 state legal so i dont have to change them every time i smog it. What is the best set of headers and y pipe that are still smog legal or should i just get other mods and leave the stock ones on if i have to get shorties.

The only CA legal headers are shorties, so your options are very limited (basically JBA). If you decide to cam the car later on take a look at the Cheatr cam from Thunder Racing. Designed to work with stock manifolds.

BTW, it is possible to pass the visual in CA with LTs. It is not as hard as some think.

Good luck.

+1 on JBA 50 state legal shorty headers. This topic has been beaten to death. Some people go to smog places that don't give a f*ck and pass with LTs/catted Y. Some places do care and want to see c.a.r.b numbers.

Yup, this convo is all over this forum. Anyhow, just get LT's and i promise it wont be hard to find a shop that wont even bother doing the visual part of the test... as Brian said.

But make sure u get a catted Y... so you can safely pass the sniffer. holla

Mac's are not CA smog legal for the same reason LTs aren't, the cats are moved from the factory locations.

As stated before, only "legal" headers in CA are shorties with c.a.r.b numbers. Mid length and Long Tubes are considered illegal because they move the stock cats out of the original location (regardless if whether or not the aftermarket headers have cats or not). However, there are a lot of "lackluster" smog shops that won't even bother making sure the cats are in stock locations... they'll usually just make sure the car has cats then go ahead and proceed with the sniffer test. In other words, get the LT's and find a shop... just don't rev it near cops ;-)

and don't spend money on mid lengths when you can buy lt's for a few bucks more... LT's=better bang for the buck.
