Painted my fuel rail covers, check it out
So I've had these fuel rail covers on the car for quite some time. Some guy saw me checking the oil at a gas station and criticized me for having them say "Corvette" when my car is not one. Well, he's ******* right so I decided to paint them to try out my new gun and to practice for when I paint my WS6 hood.
Before picture of course
Color I'm painting them
I decided to start taking pics when I saw how amazing this gun sprays. I didn't take any pics of how I filled in the Corvette letters. I basically stripped the paint off the letters, borrowed some Fusor from a buddy to fill it in, a little Rage, sanded with 120, 200, 400, 600 wet. Sprayed 2K primer, block sand, primer again, fixed whatever imperfections still remained and wet sanded with 800 and here's the result
When I bought these off the guy off ebay I had no idea he had hacked off so much material. he only showed pics of them on the car but eh, they still looked ok
And finally, the basecoat
Forgot to mention I'm going to add Trans Am decals to them like this
CLEARED!
The other one's still on the stand. I got a few small runs on this one
I think it came out good, the clear came out smooth as glass, not bad for a $30 spray gun and $20 clearcoat

That color is awesome. There was a low mileage 98 Z28 in that color for sale during one of my early Firehawk searches. The price seemed real reasonable. At times I wish I had pursued that car. I wonder why there were so few f-bodies produced in that color. I always thought it was a very attractive color on the Camaros.
Until now, I did not realize it was even offered on the Firebirds. You spurred me to do some research. Cayenne Red Metallic was offered on Firebirds from 1996 through 1998. In 1998, 600 Firebirds were produced in that color. You are right; very rare. You have a very unique and extremely nice looking car.

Nice work! I really want to fill/paint mine soon. The painting part doesnt bother me at all. Its the filling the letters part. Everyone seems to skip the details of doing that...and Im just afraid of going through the work, painting them real nice, and having the filler crack apart or whatever.
Great job though! Definetly post up some pics with the stickers on them.

Yeah it was my first time using this gun. I'm really only using these as practice for my WS6 hood which is sitting in the garage. The gun I'm using is the Harbor Freight "purple" gun. Apparently an exact replica of a very good quality gun and the paint I used is martin senour from napa. Yeah I got some small runs in that corner and a little bit of solvent pop towards the back of the other one. I still think it doesn't look too bad and I got a good feel of the gun. Thanks again everyone. Next on the list is the lid!
