Ya Know...Another What Cam???
Hey all,
Really looking for some good advice...did a lot of searching and still cannot decide what to do...Car has a lid and 150hp shot...Dont have the money right now for heads too, so just want a cam...I will eventually get heads. I want a cam that is gonna kick *** in the 2500+ range and make 420ish hp and 420ish tq cam only...Was looking at a ms4, vincidator, or trex v2, but fear of having to fly cut?? What cam would you guys say to get? Also would it be best just to have patrickg design me a custom cam?
Thanks

correct me if I'm wrong and I might be, but I think with nitrous you wanna make sure your duration on the exhaust side is larger than on the intake side when picking your cam.......or perhaps its the other way around....i figured i'd throw that out there and someone that knows for sure would jump in and validate..but this is an issue to take into account.

420 horsepower cam only is pushing it(hard). 420HP and 420 torque cam only is not gonna happen. With the larger cams and stock compression your lucky if you make 410HP and 380ish torque. Plus the power will not come in at 2500 w/ any of those cams(more like 3500-4000). I would definitely talk to Patrick and let him spec something for you.

What he said
I don't think there is a cam that will hit hard at 2500 and make 420hp in a cam only car.
more exhaust duration than intake is preferred for a NOS shot. a large LSA is also desirable 114 +

150 shot is not going to hurt any cam... when you get into the 250+ range, then i would suggest a nitrous cam....
is your car an a4 or m6?? if its a4 i would do a stall, all your bolt ons, and then a cam. if you just throw on a cam its going to suck ***. you wont get much improvement at all. the cam has to be able to breathe..

Actually.. David Vizzard in a semi-recent GMHTP showed that even with a small shot in a regular SB Chevy, even a 100hp nitrous shot could deliver up to 40hp more on the juice with a properly selected nitrous cam over a regular performance cam.
Baseline = 327hp/351tq
Performance cam = 395hp/390tq
Performance cam + 100hp N2O = 480hp/546tq
Nitrous cam = 394hp/386tq
Nitrous cam + N2O = 517hp/559tq
If you are going to spray it a lot, it is always best to have a cam designed for nitrous use. The question of choosing between a N2O cam and a strong NA cam is not in the shot size.. it's in the frequency of use. In the test producing the results above, the nitrous cam did make less power across the board vs the NA cam, but only by single digits. But it blew it away when the gas was hit.

The car is a m6 and only has a lid...I plan on gettin the rest of the bolt ons with the cam. I kinda want more of a na designed cam since I only use nitrous sometimes since this is a street car. I prob go through a ten pound bottle every two or three weeks. I guess my hp and tq goals are a bit crazy...I would like somethin that pulls hard from about 2500+ does not have to be a big cam...I will be gettin a fast 90/90 and trick flow heads soon after the cam, so I would like somethin to help those shine.....Thanks
