Default is my autometer tach (needle bouncing) gonna break?

I've got a 3-3/4" Autometer Ultra light triggered by the PCM (2002 LS1) and the needle bounces, especially at low engine speed. I can live with the bouncing, but can the tachometer? Is it going to break? I've done plenty of searching and talked with Autometer........I'm not aware of a way to fix this anyway.

I just got the same tach. I think I read that this is common at the lower RPM Ranges (Idle) and that it doesn't hurt anything. As long as it get steady once you raise the RPM's, You should be ok.

+1...I've got the Autometer Pro-Comp 5" speedo and mine vibrates until you get the engine speed up off idle. Autometer said that it was a trade-off for the precision you get at high RPMS. Soes that answer your question

Thanks for the replies. The bouncing had me worried that it was gonna break my (our) brand new $200 tachs. It sounds like they will live and I can live with the bouncing. I only use it for shifts points anyway.

my SW tach doesn't bounce, but the Speedo bounced a lot below 10MPH at first. I added in a resistor in line and it stopped. You guys might want to try that to see if it helps the tach?

Anybody have a problem with this yet? Got my Autometers installed in my 70' ElCamino
LS1ish swap and it does the same thing until about 1,000RPM. I'm very happy with the install, everything works perfect (full set of Autometer gauges in Covan dash) first time out of the chute, except for the needle bounce.

Same thing used to happen on my drag car. Just thought it was part of the precision of the tach. Doubt very much it would break a unit.
