Hey guys just wanna let you know in advance that the Automotive Technology Department at SCC will be putting on their 1st Annual Car & Truck show on Saturday October 20th, 2007. All contact info is on the bottom of the flyer.

There will be many different classes and the winners of each will receive a trophy for placing 1st, 2nd, or 3rd. If you want to enter your car please contact Jason and let him know so he can get a general idea of the amount of space that will be needed and about how many cars will be in each class.

I hope to see a large F-body crowd there!

Maybe I'll head out there, I think they Gators play Kentucky at Kentucky that day so it won't be that big of a deal! My car should be close to being finished too. Need to install everything I have sitting in the garage and then do the interior and paint the car. Then save up again for a built motor.

is this the second car show that they've hosted? b/c you cant have a "first annual" of something that you have never had before. ;) i guess thats why they're in community college! :jest:

If "community colleges" are inferior, could you possibly explain why SCC has the #1 automotive program in the country?

Yeah, good catch about the title. You seem like a sharp person! It was too late before the editors caught it. I'd like to have you on the planning committee for this show!

However, there has been another car show on campus in the past.

Technically, it wasn't last year, so the annual thing is wrong.

Still no reason to hate, and LS1Kid is right, we are the number #1 program in the nation. And there is nothing wrong with Community College.

I have been tasked with heading up this car show, and it's main purpose is to raise awareness of our new $10M building, and let young people know that working on cars is a highly technical skill, and that you can't learn how to fix new cars by reading forums! lol

We are currently looking for interest in pre-registration. As of today, we currently can only accept checks, money orders, Visa, Am-Ex, and Master Card.

I hope to have a way the college can accept donations in cash form really soon. Putting on a car show at a college is more work than you might think!!

Thank you all for your support!

Here is a pic of my 1955 Chevy that should be arriving in a couple of weeks from NY. Will be at the car show, but not sure if I will have the LSx 6 spd. install done by then.

I've been in community colleges and universites and the only difference I can tell from them is that you actually learn more at a community college because you aren't stuffed into a 300-400 person class. Textbooks are the same, course outlines are the same, teachers are usually the same ones that teach at universites, and the tuition is cheaper.

Anyways there needs to be more shit like this in Seminole county. For all of us who have f-bodies or other cool cars, it sure is a lame place for auto events.

No problem! I just want to make sure we get some positive press for this show. If things go well, they will let us do the show every year (hence the annual thing)

If you guys know of any sponsors that want to exhibit at the show, please call me at 407-708-2278.

Any of you that are in a high school auto program, you will be getting an invite to your school to attend. So tell your teacher about it ahead of time.

So far, places like Enterprise Rental, Napa, A couple of workout places, Saturn of Orlando, and I am waiting to finalize the sponsor package so all the legal stuff will be taken care of, as well as pricing for space, so there are more that are interested.

What would you like to have there? I am open to all suggestions.

I have been talking to Justin about getting his mobile Dyno there.

He has said that he needs some commitment from people that will dyno, or it doesn't make sense for him to show up.

Also, I am waiting for approval from our Risk Management on campus to make sure we can do it.

I will update the progress!

So long as the burn out winner isn't automatically the winner just because they had a mechanical failure (tire blowout) I'd be OK with that. But that doesn't mean I'll be participating in the burn-out contest. Tires are too expensive!

But I'll try to make it out. I have no idea where this campus is specifically, though

I know $75 seems kinda high, but it is a state of the art set-up, and the guy is working with me big time. He paid for the insurance to be on our campus, is driving up from Ft. Myers to support the cause, and seems happy to do so, as his nephew, Jordan is in my program. It was very easy to say yes to him. Please support him, it's only a couple of more bucks than you normally pay, I have 8 cars comitted already not including Ryan.

Sponsors so far:

Matco Tools
Next Level Performance
Corvette Masters
Napa Auto Parts
Discount Tire
SMC Automotive
Saturn of Orlando
Enterprise rental

105.9 pending for a live on location. Not sure if they can do it yet.

A few more sponsors pending....

A couple of drag cars will be there, an old fire truck, and I already have the Vectrix full electric motor scooter on campus.( 63 mph, really cool)

Next Level is caravaning some cars out to the show. I hope you guys can all make it. Even if you don't want to enter your car, please come and support SCC by checking this event out.

LOL 75 bucks for 2 pulls? Most shops charge $50-60 with A/F. boost, and print out. Shops usually charge $75 for an hour of dyno time. Also if its not a dyno jet the numbers will be off and not accurate. Just because he is coming from Ft Myers doesnt mean he can come and rip people off for 2 pulls. From what ive read VMP tuning has a Dynojet Model 224xLC and charges $60 with HP, TQ, A/F, boost, and a printout. Good luck with the $75 though.

First, I think he has a dynojet too.

Second, a dynojet is not the most accurate dyno. The name dynojet doesn't guarantee you the best results. Maybe the highest numbers, but I know I don't have a "Dyno Queen" It's a useful tool to see how your car performs. An eddycurrent dyno provides a more realistic comparison to actual road conditions. DynoJet makes one, but it's not the standard model.

Third, Justin at VMP Tuning was not willing to work with me on this show, required money up front, and wanted me to pay his insurance rider, and guarantee him all the cars up front. For someone running his first show, it was way more trouble than it was worth, but I guess everyone has his opinion.

So.... for an extra $15 to support a worthy cause, like the Automotive Programs at SCC, and help out someone who is willing to drive 4 hours and be a good sport about it is not a good idea? That equates to wings and a dring at Hooters.

Someone in my backyard was not as easy to deal with as a guy from Ft. Myers. As far as him ripping you off? You didn't have all the facts, so how can I hold that against you? I mean even you said, from everything you READ.

I keep telling the students that you can't become a car expert from reading forums. Guys in my class read this one good, it's a perfect example.

Jason, I don't think saying that I am hard to deal with is fair. I simply have to protect my own interests, just like you have to do. I have $100,000 invested in my mobile dyno business + individual event costs like insurance and employees. It's not an effective business model to spend a whole day at an event and only run 5 cars, I need to have minimums.

The dyno debate is often filled with mis-information. The bottom line, just about every dyno brand out there, including some big ones like Mustang Dyno and Dyno Dynamics, let the operator change the power output to their liking. Some leave it a lone, some try to make it look like a Dynojet, others inflate the numbers so their shop looks better. At the end of the day, Dynojet is the only dyno out there that can not be inflated. There is the load debate, but I can also show you how it makes no difference in WOT power on a 460RWHP heads/cam Z06, as I have a loaded dynojet.

Hopefully you can find out what kind of dyno it is and let everyone on here know.

I hope this first show goes well for you and I will try to make it out there for at least an hour or two.

Dyno debate or not, that's not the main issue.

Hopefully the show goes well for the students' sake. Like I previously stated, this is my first show, and there was way more involved with getting this show off the ground than any of you actually know. Justin, I have nothing against you or your company. However, it was simply not good business for me or the college to pay out funds from our department when we didn't have much of a budget to start with. You told me you could make more money sitting home on the internet. As this is our first show, the vendors are taking a risk to support me, and I appreciate that. I hope you can stop by and check it out. I do not wish to argue with you about this, as I gave you fair chance. If you like what you see at our college and wish to support me in the future, that would be great as you are a part of the local automotive community. It's also not good press to be arguing about stuff when we are both local. I am not sure if you know demonicbird, but it sounded weird that a guy from NJ knew all the details. Calling my vendor a rip off isn't cool. I'm sure you would feel the same way if you were me. All of the vendors are giving me something towards the scholarships as well, whether it be a cash donation, or tools to raffle off at the show. The point being good advertising and money donated to a good cause. Matco and Snap on tools, Enterprise Rental, CFADA, Napa Auto Parts, and others have all given raffle items, as well as paying a sponsor fee. Even small mom and pop stores have helped.

I hope you don't see this post as a flame or anything like a personal attack, because it's not. My main objectives are to promote our new auto building, give students that need/deserve help in their education, and help local business' advertise to the local community.

I have no idea who the NJ guy is and did not write that, so please don't accuse me of such.

I've done too many dyno days where someone like you will have good intentions and want me to be there, but the non-car guys running the place want the dyno across the street so "some crazy guy does not blow up their engine trying to show off", to quote some of the things I've been told before. Then I turn into somewhat of a sub-par vendor who can't even be in the vendor area. Requiring cash up front is simply a way of making sure ALL the people putting on the show are serious, otherwise it is much more important for me to maintain my retail online business.
