Question Headers

I have a 97 Z28 that is stock and have only had for a month and I want to put Pacesetter coated long tube headers. Im going to get the emissions headers because I need to pass emissions. when I put the headers in I will also be putting in a loudmouth exhaust. I want to have cats so if I have cats with the headers will I still get an ses light and do I have to get a pcm tune? Pacesetter has an ory pipe so would I be able to put cats on this? Also on www.texas-speed.com there is a 3'' Cat Y Pipe for pacesetter headers and it says it has high flow magnaflow cats on it for 300 bucks. Since it is in the ls1 section and not the lt1 would I still be able to use it? Thanks

I know that the EGR/air hookups on the LT's are required for emmissions, and that you must have TWO cats, because you have a 95+ Earlier years only needed one cat. Ive also heard that alot of people get bitch at my the emmissions guys about having high flow cats vs regular. Ive heard from a few people out there that LS1 pacesetter y pipes and LT1 y pipes are the same, and there are others that say they are not.

My suggestion... Buy the emissions LT's.... then either get the ORY and add TWO cats, or else Have a custom Y made with cats from a local shop, which should be less then 300$ like TSP is selling for....which may or may not fit.

You can get Highflow 3" Catco cats off Summitracing for $50 a pop.... buy two of those and get the rest custom made or else buy the ORY and see about fitting them into that. Ive heard that the Catco Cats dont throw codes, but Ive heard that the Magnaflow ones sometimes do or dont.....

Good luck im whichever way you go....

yes you can put headers and a catted y pipe on your car and you wont get a ses light and you dont HAVE to get a tune.. yet its always good to get a tune when you mod your car

You won't throw a code but these cars seem to run rich without tuning after you install lt's. If you want cats then just have a y pipe made. It's going to be cheaper in the long run.

thanks guys im either going to put magnaflow cats on the pacesetter ory or just have a custom y pipe made with cats. But if I do decide to just get the pacesetter ory and do away with cats then can I pass emissions with a tune?

Long tube headers will require you to get extensions for the O2 sensors , keep the emissions parts, and you should not see any SES light, software for tuning should be able to eliminate the need for the O2 sensors after the cats, with that said, you should be good to go!
