Some time over the last couple weeks I drove through something that was thrown up on the left side of the rear bumper cover. I figured I or my brother had hit a small puddle, and thought nothing of it. It appeared as if dirty water had splashed up and made runs in the brake dust/exhaust residue. Today though, I made a sad discovery. When washing the car, I found out that the mystery substance was not dirty water residue and would not wash off with Zaino soap. I had to use strong bug/grease/tar remover. Unfortunately, even though I was able to remove the substance, it left behind yellow streaks and spots. Clay barring has not helped at all. I am going to try to buff it out, but I do not think it is going to help. I think I am going to be stuck with the discoloration or have to paint. Any suggestions? I will post up after buffing.

It is hard to see all the discoloration in this pic. It extends from the wheel well all the way around to the tips.

Just tried buffing. Buffing w/ white pad & SF2 has 0 effect. This sucks.

what machine did you use to buff? what speed?

probably just need a more agressive pad .. maybe a more agressive compound ..

My camera is cheap and I am not a photographer.





I use Sonus products and the PC 7424. For the discoloration I tried using SFX-2 polish & pad.

The most aggressive pad I have is the SFX-1. The most aggressive polish/compound I have is 3M compound (1500 grit remover).

I had the PC set @ ~4.5 (5000rpm?).

i had some black stuff on mine and goo-gone took it off, dont know why just try it you've got nothing else to lose

Per your email, yes it is on the driver side. No I do not believe it is from gas. Appearance inicated it was from driving through an unknown substance. It had the consistency of pine tar when I removed it, but prior to washing it off it just appeared like water flung off the tire and caused runs in the dust. If that is the case, I wonder why there is nothing behind the front tire. Anyway, the mess does not extend up to gas cap.

Have you considered using a wool pad? If it's that bad to the point your other pads won't get it out you may look into trying this route. Just beware on the danger as it's not as easy as the normal pads.

try hittign it on 6 with the most agressive pad you have and the 3M ..


as for better pictures .. out in the sun would be preferable .. if possible

Cloudy right now. Tried taking some pictures outside, and they were not any more revealing. If I can find a good discolored test spot on the bottom side of the bumper cover, I will try your more aggressive approach. First, I need a nap, though. Dead tired.
