Default blocking AIR system (ticking noise)???

I just started getting that annoying check valve ticking noise from the AIR system. I'm not sure if I want to block it off, or drill a hole in block-off plate and put it between the header and the AIR system connection. I read somewhere that this works. What size should I drill the hole? I'm hesitant to block the system off because I'm running cats and I understand it helps them heat up faster, putting the pcm into closed loop mode sooner. Anyone try this, or have any suggestions for me?

Thanks

Matt

If you decided to keep the AIR tubes, Pace sells a restrictor kit so you don't have to make them your self.

If you decide to keep the AIR tubes, you'll most likely have to replace the check valves also to stop the ticking...

I just removed the AIR tubes...for off-road use only, of course...

What do you have to do to get rid of the AIR System? On a 98Z

Thanks for the responses! I was going to toss the AIR system all together, but then while I was doing a search, I read that my cats would burn up quicker without the AIR system. Is there any truth to this? I'm not really sure how the PCM works but one post said without the AIR system the PCM takes longer to get into closed loop mode. Can anyone shed some light onto this subject? Thanks

then just get rid of your cats too! jking...kinda

yah dude the AIR system puts oxygen into your exhaust. **** gets hotter if there's oxygen in it i guess and it does heat up the catalytic converters much faster then without the system. it won't harm them though...and so what if they do.

Cats are only good if u are going to pass the sniffer to begin with. If not, then get a big cam, ditch the cats, and make some real noise.

I would have tossed the cats a while ago, but I have to pass emissions (the sniffer). It goes for inspection this Monday, so we'll see how that goes. I took the whole AIR system out last night and the car seems to stumble a bit more than it did before when cold. I'm going to ditch the cats when I save up enough money for Hooker LT's and custom true duals over the axle. Emissions testing might be the biggest statewide scam ever!

I was thinking of removing my air system as well when I ditch my SLP headers, it does seem weird though that injecting air helps to heat up the cats quicker? I guess thats why I'm not an engineer.

Hey Mike, I'm just a "dumb *** mechanic," who loves to screw with the engineers I work with every day...remember the fire triangle from school? Fire/Heat, Fuel-unburnt escaping in xhaust, and ta da O2. Now I am sure my engineers could give it to you in a very impressive, thorough powerpoint presentation-only it would take em' 6 months to gen it up.

well, It wasn't the AIR system. Noise is still there after blocking it off. I'm going to head over to Internal Engine.
