commuters, what kind of mileage you getting
ok so this may not be the best question for a performance forum, but its a concern nonetheless. heres the question do any of you make long commutes in youre GTOs, or other LS1 cars, and if so what kind of gas mileage do you get. heres the deal, Im in the process of looking for a new job, the thing is that the nearest place to get a decent job is about 30-40 miles away. so if I were to get a new job I would probably be in for a nearly 70 mile long RT commute. I will need a newer vehicle if this does happen, theres a pretty good chance it will, and there are a few Im considering, one of which is a GTO, but how much the job pays will probably determine what car I go for along with how much the monthly gas bill would be. the commute will be 90 percent highway driving so thats good. so let me know if possible, thanks.

With my 04 Stock on the highway I got about 25 MPG on a 25 mile one way with very little traffic.
After the mods, until recently I got about 18 but I've found my tune was way off and am in the process of fixing that. I'm now getting about 26 MPG Hwy with mods without running lean cruise (only on 04s) and 21 MPG mixed.

Even with my mods in sig, I still get about 25mpg highway with mine and I ride about 30 min highway everyday oneway. Mine is a 6spd and I highly recommend against the auto if your looking for gas mileage lol.

honestly I wouldnt even consider an auto. Ive always preferred a stick. If I get one it will see some track time, but mostly just for fun, plus I really think with some practice I can be very consistent with a stick car. Ive heard of people getting as much as 30 mpg with some cars. I guess 25 isnt bad though.
one other thing what exactly is lean cruise, I know you need a tuner to enable it, why is it only on the 04s? ive also heard that it can make youre engine temp go up, is that true? also are there any aftermarket tuners that have a mileage mode for the 05-06 cars??
and radkon, those pipes are nice, got any vids of how they sound??

I too drive long distances to work about a 50 mile round trip where about 40 of those miles a highway and I average about 20 to 21 with both city and highway combined and I get about 350 miles to a tank of gas pushing once in a while but not very often

Lean cruise is a "leftover" on the LS1 ECM. It is enabled on the Monaro but disabled on the GTO (due to EPA concerns). It was completely removed from the LS2 ECM so its a no go for the 05 and 06 GTO.
It allows you to run leaner than the 14.68 AFR Stoich ratio at very light throttle conditions. It raises the Nox output of the engine so the EPA isn't about to allow it over here. I'm running between 15.5 and 16.5 AFR during light cruise and have seen a small increase in mileage (1.5 MPG). AFR's in this range burn hotter but not significantly enough to be of a concern, the cooling system can keep up and if you have CATS keep the Cat over Temp (COT) fueling on and you should be fine.

A lot depends on traffic and driving habits, the M6 does get better mileage.
I've done Ok with my A4.
