Default LT headers to stock catback?

i want my car to seem completely stock but have a few things done to it, i have a lid and bellow and want a system that will give me maximum power without being annoying at cruisin speed but mean at wot without the blue lites in my mirror. i want to put kooks lts and catted y, will that hook up to my stock catback that goes back and over the axle??? this is waht i would like to do but want to know if anyone has tried doing this...

As long as you use te matchin Y pipe it should bolt up no problem

You're on the right path. Headers make the power, catbacks just make noise. If you don't mind the civility of the stock catback, then headers only will be fine and will still gain you the power.

i am pretty sure the factory pipe is a 2.75" which will work ok till you start making decent power. The muffler is pretty restrictive, though. i removed mine an did a dynomax ultraflo 3" in and single out, with a single tip. Sounds low and mean. i know in the future i will need to upgrade the pipe, but for my mods, it was a cheap alternative.

for now im goin for about 350hp or a lil more in the future i may try and up it and then i will get a highflow exhaust but for now i would like to keep it pretty stock and i think header s is what i want next, do u think it would be worth it to get it installed profess. or get on my frends lift and do it??thnx for the help

if you and your friends are sure you can do it then i'd say do it yourself. btw 350rwhp? what year and tranny is your LS1?

You might want to look into a Dual/Dual catback. I have Lt's and ORY and it is surprisingly stock sounding at idle and stays tame until you get on the gas.
I'll be adding cats soon and that should finish taming out the rasp in the mid-range. Big plus to this is it flows very, very well from what i have heard. Just as good as any aftermarket "high flow" unit.

Or you could just keep the stock can and run a cutout.

i would say do it yourself if your good with a wrench and if you have a lift that you have permission to use. it took me 5 1/2 hours to do mine by myself so you could easily knock it out in a few hours with some buddys

I think the stock is 3", should hook right up. Yeah, 350rwhp right.

I have had headers, an ory, and the stock Z28 catback. Sounded like V6 honestly, I could barely hear it at all. Very quiet. No one would be able to tell it had headers and it was too quiet for anyone to hear the rasp really, so they couldn't tell it had an ory either.

I had that setup on my car... Long tubes to ORY to stock catback. that lasted a month. it really didn't sound much louder than stock. i think you would be good with a hooker catback, especially since you are running cats. i have the catback on my car with longtubes and ORY, at idle and cruising up to about 2500 its very quiet. a little throaty in the 2500 - 3500 ish area if your getting on it, and at WOT it sounds awesome. i think you would be happy with it.

stock is smaller than 3". Im not sure exactly what it is, but it is def closer to 2.75.

This might be dumb, but with LT's where would you put your CAT's if you wanted to still appear emissions legal? Normally they wrap up to the manifolds on the Y pipe right? I know it can be done just asking how most do it.

not sure what header y pipe combo im goin to get quite yet but i think im now leanin towards getting a magnaflow out the rear because its stainless and my pipes are starting to rust and i can get it wholesale.

whys jet hot coated headers only 500 bucks? and the other longtubes are more lie 900$$$?

generally the more expensive headers are SS , and are a brand name compnay that has shown to net a few more hp out of your setup... like QTP's and Kooks.

jet hots, pacesetters, hookers, ceramic coated, should be around the same price and are considered the "budget" headers, but they work quite nicely as well.

i would not use the stock muffler, you'll be slightly choking your exhaust, at least get a better flowing muffler welded in. i asked my local speed shop for a performance but quiet muffler / catback edelbrock RPM. its only loud under full throttle. just my 2 cents i used magnaflow chrome exhaust tips which are almost identical to stock tips. mine looks stock. ps i'm an older guy with a sensitive ear and i enjoy this exhaust. i dislike harleys with open exhaust (hurts my ears and noise pollution)
