Best clutch for the PRICE
So after a TON of abuse the stock clutch went out on me and now I am in the process of looking for a new one. I was just wondering if anyone had any advice as far as an affordable stage 2 clutch. I am not pushing a ton of power, but something that will hold up for a while on the strip and street. Should pry be able to handle around 500hp and a set of slicks. Any help on what brand and where to pick one up at an AFFORDABLE price would be appreciated. Don't have a TON of money to spend on one right now.
THANKS

get a CARTEK Clutch. You won't regret it.
My car puts down 508RWHP, launching at upwards of 7200rpm and power-shifting at 7000 without letting up on the throttle. Clutch handles it without a problem and gets hot lapped in those conditions on a regular basis.
I drive the car on the street quite a lot. On the highway, in traffic, all without a problem, without chatter, and with little wear on my left leg.

Which Cartek clutch are you referring to???
Every stage 3 i have looked at seems to be kind of pricey and for a power range that I am not going to be touch for a long time. Thats why I have been looking at the stage 2 ones.
I was told by the local shop that I could get an Exedy for $550, is that resonable and has anyone used one before??? Quality???

i have used a ton of spec 3's and i never had one single problem with them... ive never personally used a 3+ but i prefer a 6 puck over a full face disc....

I have installed several stage 3's. never seen any problems personally. a good friend of mine had 2 bck to back bad stage 3's though. but the first one could have easily been installed wrong. it didnt have even clamping force and vibrated badly. if it wasnt torqued on properly, it could have caused that. the replacement blew up as ive heard of happening before. BUT, spec always takes care of its customers. thats why Im in the process of buying another spec right now. 3+ this time. the stage 3 I put in my dads car was abused badly while he learned how to launch and do burnouts with the line lock. so I knew it wasnt goin to last for too long.
if you dont drag race much, the LS7 is an excellent clutch. some even have good success with it at the track, but for me Id rather not worry about it and buy the right clutch for the job.

So i have pretty much decided to go with the Spec 3 clutch. For what I need and the price I think it is going to be the best fit for me.
A local performance shop that does very good work quoted me a price of $500 to install it. I usually do all my own work on my car, but when it comes to the transmission I havent become brave enough yet. Is $500 a pretty fair price???

umm, thats pretty high. $3-400 would be more reasonable. I do them for 4.5 hours at work and even our normal $85/hr rate is less then that. but I do performance work at the shop at $65/hour rate.
