im currently in the process of building a stock suspension drag radial 98 trans am. im running a 315 m/t on a 12in rim, just curious if anyone had the rear narrowed any and what backspacing they ran.

315 17" rim or 315 on a 15" rim.

If it is a 315 on a 15" rim are you mini tubbed?

I have seen a 315 15" rim without a mini tub but it stuck out some.

I was considering a 315 60 15 on a 15x12 with 6" backspace and narrowing the rear 4.5" per side but I have to do the math and actually final measurements, but around this on mine, I have the LCA's relocated so I have the full 16" of the tub.

I am trying to make it fit with about 3/4" of clearance on the inside so I can tuck it as much as I can, but have to check, if 3/4" is enough clearance it will tuck the tire on a 12" rim about 1" from the section to the fender lip.

Got any pics of the relocated lca's? My car is minni tubbed,and I have offset lca's,narrowed 3" per side,and run a 29.5x10.5 non W tire on 10"wheels w/5"bs.I would like to go with a 12" wheel for stability down track ,but only have a 1/2 to 3/4" clearance between the tire and lca.

I don't have any pics, but I can post a photo of the way mine is done, my LCA sits 1/4" behind the tub.

Moving the LCA in this way will give you the full 16" tub, so you'll gain 1 3/4" - 2" of more space.

Before I had like 14- 14 1/4 from the fender lip to the LCA.

yes it is mini tubbed, and it will be a 15" rim, we want to go with a 15x12 but i wasnt sure is that would fit or not,

A 315 60 15 will fit on a 15x12 relocating the LCA is pretty easy and you can just cut off the stock brackets on the rear (shock/LCA) and swap sides with them so the shock is on the outside of the LCA and just move it in until it is 90* to the relocated LCA. So the stock shock fits back right where it was and the LCA is just on the opposite side of how it is stock.

I was told a 315 60 15 on a 12" rim is right about 14 1/4" so if you get the rims and tires with the offset you want you can center the tire on the rim exactly in the middle of the fender lip and tub and then measure for the exact width rear end from the brake hat to brake hat without worrying about having it to far out or in.

My current plans are a 15x12 with 6" back space with each side narrowed 5". I will have to get the rims and tires first to make sure that I will narrow it 5" per side.

I talked with some one else who runs a 15x10 with 5" back space narrowed 5" per side that tucks nice and has 1" clearance inside and out.

So my plans are to run a 15x12 with 6" back space and I will check the width of the rear I need once I center the tires in between the tubs.

That way you have how much you need to narrow the rear end down to 1/16th" increments. So it will really fit nice without rubbing.

I was out of town this weekend and saw a members car and talked to him about it a little. He's running a 3rd gen rear end with minitubs in a 98 up car with 315 15" M/T drag radials. It looked good and the tires tucked perfect. He said the 3rd gen rear fits, you just need 3rd gen brakes and it comes out like 2" narrower.

I have a 3rd gen in my car, broke my other rear end and with the offset on my rims the 4th gen wouldn't work.

I have 15x8 with 3" back space with a 275 60 15. The section of the tire is exactly even with the outside of the body.

For people that want to stay with a stock rear end it is a very cheap way to have a narrower rear end.

The 3rd gen rear is actually 3" narrower (1 1/2" per side).
