Default question about 9'' rears and set-ups

Its that time to ditch the 10 bolt and get a rear in the car. I dont have the $2200 to buy a rearend at once so im gonna build a 9'' over time. So my buddy has 2 center sections with a 3.73 gear and a 4.11 gear in them. Only down side is there cast centers but he only wants $75 for both of them. So cheap or not its a hell of a deal then just get a aluminum one later when i get more cash and have a few gear sets for a option. Then but a moser housing (p/n B9HP2) for $1000 with axles, bearings etc. So id basically have a 9'' for $1100 or am i missing a lot more parts? Wont be the best center section but its gonna be a lot better then a 10 bolt. Any advise please??

check out burkhart chassis....site sponsor...they have the housing and axle kit CHEAP!

i would upgrade it while u are at it....

do the centersections have posi or open? or spools?....id rebuild them with new bearings and a 1350 yoke....also both have the same spline count?....i would put beef axles in while you are there

i went all out with my 9 inch....strange housing, lightened steel spool, 1350 yoke....35 splined axles etc....i know it will be there every time for me

"the cheap way out is not always the best" thats what i tend to live by

i plan on buying a 33 spline spool for the one (it has a 28 spline spool now so from what iv seen is that size dia. you can go as big as a 33 spline axle), and yes, new bearings and what not. And in the future i plan on buying a aluminum center, im just using thses to get me by and ill just sell um later on.

The one center has a 28 spline spool and the other is just a open rear i think...

Those factory center sections should do you just fine. I wouldn't hesitate at all using them.

I have a number of 31 spline parts, I have a complete center section, a rebuildable posi and also a spool. It's a Strange center section. Let me know if you or anyone has interest, I'd consider keeping the 3.50 gear.

jerry just go with the $1000 housing/axle package and put it together, don't forget to ask for GM housing ends as well for whatever brake combo you're running lt1/ls1 ? I was going to do that, but bob at exotic performance had a nice deal going with free shipping and no tax for the whole thing, so I bought it all at once, what a sticker shock though.
