Default tickets in illinois?? :(

Ok yea i just got my t/a sat and i got a ticket. I was following a state cop on I-80 west and he punched it so i sped up a little(along with other cars) to about 75 and he pulled me over saying i was "pacing right behind him" when he started right in front of me and before he stoped he was about 30 yards if not more in front of me. He said he was going 90...and he said since i was "pacing him" that i was going 90 too so thats what he wrote the ticket for. I just went to driving school in august to take care of a previous ticket in the summer so now that i just got another one within a year does that mean they are both on my record and going to driving school to get the first one off is offset? And since that is going 35 over the speed limit and im pretty sure thats wreckless driving...what kind of **** am I in? I have court in december but im trying to get a heads up for what to expect. Thanks guys.

That sounds pretty ridiculous to me. I agree take that **** to court. I've heard of a cop pacing you but never the other way around... doesn't make too much sense.

If he is the lead car he cant accuratly judge on how fast you are going unless is right beside you and or behind you. Seek help.

it wasnt quite rush hour but it was still really busy anyway i couldnt get to 90 without having to slam on my brakes even if i wanted to. the ticket itself isnt my biggest concern its how much insurance is gonna go up.

At least you didn't get next to him and try to race. Tell the judge you were going to make a citizens arrest for him speeding, you were pacing him. lol

Normally when I see the police I tend to slow down and go the speed limit, I've never tried to chase them. Just go to court and try to plea it down.

Oh yea he can. They have radars mounted on the front and back and can scan through cars to their front or behind with a hand control. The county sheriff's down here in So. Ill. have them so I figure the State Police would too.

I myself got a ticket for 70 in a 45 in Jan this year. I havent got a ticket for a few years before that so my record was good. Judge gave me a 4-hour traffic school and supervision. I then got a ticket for making a turn on red in Feb. When I went to court for that the judge saw my ticket in Jan and gave me the 8 hour traffic school and supervision. Then I got a ticket for 65 in a 50in May. I got a lawyer and he got the ticket droped for me. If I didnt get a lawyer that ticket would have turned my two supervisions into convictions and I would have got my license suspended. A few days ago I got a ticket for 50 in a 35 so back to court with a lawyer if I dont want to lose my license. Hopefully he can pull off what he did before again.

In my situation all my tickets were normal violations and I only recieved one moving violation in each instance. Dont goto court without a lawyer.

I'd get a lawyer if you have too many points.

I don't pace cops I keep a distance, but I was arrested for speeding back in 2000 so I am a little more paranoid about cops now. I still do 125-145 mph if there is enuff room.

I would get a lawyer and he can plea it down for you. Yeah, you could try it yourself, but for the money you are going to pay the lawyer (prolly $100), it would be worth it.

FWIW, I drive 5 under. ONEBADWS6 & THEEPEWTERZ call me grandpa.

i think it would be kind of interesting to have a specific forum on here where everyone can share thier stories of getting pulled over and all that.

Why would anyone follow a cop in the first place? I'd back off and let someone else get in front of me and behind the cop. Obviously you were well exceeding the speed limit going at least 75 mph (20 over). Get a lawyer and be prepared to pay.

yes i know i was speeding but it was the flow of traffic and 20 over is far better then 35 over. but the cop had just got on the highway i wasnt going to go 10 under to let him drift away i didnt think it would have been a problem. then again i was wrong and im not going to let it happen again
