anyone have any opinion or real world experience with the scat I beam rods? they come with 3/8" arp caps. while that wont handle huge power, will it handle heads, cam, and 200-250 nitrous stuff on a 347? talking 7000 rpms is the max with a mild hydraulic roller. they are crazy cheap.

There is a typo there by SDPC, they actually have 7/16" capscrew's instead of the 3/8". On a older SBC, the same style rod, in a customers 383 is putting down 900 HP to the tire(this Vega runs high 9's in the 1/4 @ 5200 ft. elevation with the corrected numbers in the 6800-9000 ft area). They have been in there for several years now with nothing more than a capscrew change. This is a solid roller 383 with a 6-71 blower and a 250 shot on top of that. I have to date never had a failure with this style rod.

hmm i will have to call up sdpc to discuss with them the cap screw issue.

is it any additional work to get these cheaper rods to balance compared to a more expensive (though still chinese forging) compstar or eagle rod?

The rods are all pre-balanced to +/- 1 gram with each other. The machinest that I use to balance my rotating assemblies likes the Scat rods, due to the ease of balancing things & the quality of the rods. He has worked with some very top race teams for Indy car, F1, World of Outlaws, Top Fuel Alcohol Dragsters & Funny Cars, Trans Am racing, and many, many more. As he say's "They just work", no need to change anything. Also on a side note, I would look for a shop that has a CWT 3000/5000 series digital balancer for balancing your rotating assembly. Balancing things with a traditional manner with still leave you in a unbalanced state to the tune of 20-30 grams.

Also to break down Scat's part number for you is as follows 2-6125716:
2-stands for a capscrew design 4340 I beam rod
6125- stands for a 6.125" length
716- stands for a 7/16" capscrew with the polished beams

I was looking at those in stock length for the same reason. I made a thread about them a while ago. I recently found a set of the stock length scat h beams for $250 in the for sale section so I jumped on those.

I have a set in my shortblock already. Hasn't been ran yet, but theres not a doubt in my mind that they wont hold up to what Im gonna put em through. SR347 street car with the limiter between 72 and 75.

John, I have always been a fan of high dollar rods just because if the rods go, the shortblock is usually trashed.

How far have you pushed their H beams? What would a set of the ARP2000 rod bolts for these cost? The ones I bought came with the 8740 ones.

We pushed Eagle '03D' H beams to 1160rwhp 8740 rod bolts

granted turbocharged, i'm sure that kind of hp on spray would have had issues.

CompStar rods are your best bet if your looking for ARP2000 bolts, and really the best rods in general

I already bought the Scat rods and should have them soon. They came with the 8740 rod bolts. I was wondering how much a set of the ARP2000 rod bolts for the rods that I already have would cost?
