Help!!! Gto M6 To Ls1 .....
My father is trying to mate a 2004 gto m6 to a generic LS1 that I got from G.M. that they were clearancing. The problem is that when putting the two together the input splines are hitting the pilot bearing and the bellhousing is still 1/2 inch from the block. And the pilot bearing is the one that came with the engine and is seated all the way in. The engine is supposibly a 2004 GTO block with a CTS pan that was used for industrial purpasses. Do we need a different bellhousing? Are some bellhousings deeper? Any help would be appretiated.

IT WAS NOT CHANGED, IT IS THE ONE THAT CAME WITH THE ENGINE. IT IS A ROLLER BEARING. AND IT APPEARS TO BE SEATED ALL THE WAY IN. THE SPLINES ON THE INPUT SHAFT HIT THE BEARING BEFORE THE BELLHOUSING TOUCHES THE BLOCK? ANY IDEAS? ARE THERE DIFFERENT BEARINGS? THIS ENGINE IS KIND OF A BASTARD MOTOR (BUNCH OF DIFFERENT PARTS) IT WAS USED IN FORKLIFTS ACCORDING TO G.M. TECHS.

Not yelling, I work in parts at a dealer answering phones and all our work is done in caps. It is a pain when i have to switch back and forth inbetween calls. sorry. By the time i have typed all of this i have answered 6 calls. Thank you everyone for your answers.

HE BEAT ME TO THE REASON WHY ITS IN ALL CAPS......LOL We do the same thing here.
Try finding a new pilot bearing and see what happens. Just do not use the pilot bearing tool pushes on the backside of the crank! There has been a couple of people I know *cough (including me) cough* that pushed the freeze plug into the oil pan.

My dad swears that the input shaft cant go any further into the crank.

Yes, because we sell gto trans to f-body customer all the time. A gto trans can go in a f-body and a f-body trans can go in a gto. There are two steps in the crank one is for the sealed roller bearing and one is for a needle style roller bearing. The one that is for the sealed roller bearing in the larger outter step, and the one that is for the normal f-body is in the inner step of the crank shaft, which set about 1/2 inch deeper in the end of the crank.

The parts book shows two different #'s
F-body=12453263 V-body(GTO)=92142856
They should have the same geometry even if they have different #'s. I don't know why its like that but I'd listen to Amber and try a new pilot bearing. They know what they are talking about.

The clutch wasn't installed yet. The engine had a large 2 inch bearing that was flush with the end of the crank. He needed the smaller bearing that fit in to the smaller center hole.
