Default how many miles when your rearend went?

For those who have blown there stock rearend with a A4, how many miles did you have? I just picked up a 2001 z28 A4 43,000 miles and plan on doing my best to make the stock rear end last. I am just going to do basic bolt ons and don't plan on driving it really hard. But just curious to know how many miles you A4 drivers had when it blew. did you race it hard for this to happen? or had a lot of hp? let me know how you guys ended up blowing them. I hope to get another 40k miles with about 350whp and not much drag racing. possible? i have read all these stories of rear ends blowing and its got me scared because i won't have 2-3k for a better rear end till i graduate. Thanks, Dan the noob

38,000 but I elected to swap it out in favor of a 9".

There was nothing wrong with it (Other than being a 10 bolt) and I just put 3.90 gears in it at 35,500. I ended up selling it with the stock gears added in for $525.

I don't have an A4 but I still have broken gear stories, I have in a 10 bolt broken 3.42's, 3.73's, 4.10's and 4.56's.

I broke the 3.42 (stock gear) around 8,000 miles, which is 3,000 more than the factory clutch lasted

Some times racing, sometimes just taking off hard at stop lights and No matter what luck anyone has had, you beat on it it will break guaranteed.

100% of my failures were teeth breaking off of either the pinion or ring gear.

I am personally going with the S60.

Mine never really broke. The diff. seemed a little "shaky" and I wanted a steeper gear ratio so I replaced them with 3.90s. I put the 3.90s in at about 88000 miles I think. I also have an M6 which is little more abusive on drivetrain components. It really is luck of the draw with the 10 bolts. Some can handle low 11 sec passes, others break on bone stock cars going mid to high 13s.

It probably wasn't worth it (most aftermarket warranties aren't).

Rear ends don't crap out at a particular mileage...it often has a lot more to do with how hard the car was driven. If your rear isn't making any noise now and you don't plan on racing it every week, you'll probably be fine for a while.
