Patman#1 - oil question - please!
Did the oil analysts with the 20 plus years of experience in the business ever analyze the impact of oil addtitives....?
...you know, those products like Slick 50, etc.?
...I saw an info-mercial recently where Al Unser of Indy fame added Slick 50 to a Viper, drove it around a while and then emptied out all the crankcase oil.
He then drove the Vipor around the Indy curcuit for 1/2 hour without any oil....
the car ran and looked great on TV - even better than a ZO6!
Question: so does this stuff really work? If, yes, why do we need any oil at all...?

Re: Patman#1 - oil question - please!
...all this expensive synthetic oil (I use Royal Purple and Frams when availible) is costing me a fortune....so I figure I could save up for a 427 stroker much quicker if I didn't have to buy/use any oil, right?
If I run without oil, I don't need to change the oil filter either, right? Maybe I should replace the oil filter with an air filter since my motor will be filtering air not oil?

RobertB, Same difference, but I believe that might have been the Prolong commercial.
For my money, I prefer TUFOIL by Flouramics in New Joisey.
It has the lowest friction coefficient of anything you might add to your oil.(for what it's worth!)

My problem is not with oil additives >
My problem is with tire wear. Everything is all backwards....
I propose that the streets be made from rubber, and tires be made of concrete. That way, well ..... you know

slick 50 = snake oil -- It is rough on the snakes but engines like it.

Robert be the guinea pig. We all love the innovators. Add slick 50 empty the entire crankcase, and run the **** out of your car...I may go this route as well. Oil is just a conspiracy, who needs it.
