Default Short stick shifter question..lol

Alright so I put my 6inch short stick shifter in today from ws6 store, some questions and problems. First off I have a 98 trans am no ws6 or anything just trans am. It has stock shift **** and for some reason seems to kinda hit 2nd and 4th gear if you know what I mean it hits the plastic its really close.. and I broke a clip on the right side lol..so its down fine and all but I couldn't figure out how its suppose to go down on that side it kinda just snapped into place and if u want tho u can pull the leather up on the right side its really annoying. does anyone have any like hitting of 2nd and 4th on the plastic im not sure really what to do.

there seems to be a problem with the ws6 SS hitting the console if the cars aren't equipped with the Hurst shifter from factory, mine isn't a hurst equipped model either and I have purchased a ws6 SS but have yet to put it on. Some people don't have probs with it others do, it's hit and miss. hope this helps

I have never had this problem until I got my 94 Z28. The shifter hits only in second and seems to be turned wrong. I installed the stock Hurst shifter out of my 01 WS6 and it fixed the problem.Wish I could be of more help.

If you have the stock shifter, the 6 inch stick will usually hit. The 6.5 inch would have been more ideal. What you can do is add a bit of a "bend" to it. Requires a strong vice and a sledge hammer. I made some adjustments to mine to give a bit more bias to the driver's side.

I had the 6.5 one my car is a ws6 but the shifter was not the hurst one just the stock one and it hit in second and 4th, It worked but it was annoying so I just bought a pro 5.0 and took a hack saw and cut off the thread till the stick was 6in and it works perfect.

look b4 u go buy a new shifter, this is what i did, i loosend the screws that hold the SS and then i put it in 5th gear and put pressure on it and then i tightend the screws! this way it will move the stick a little forward and wont let it hit the center

Honestly, I would go that route. I'm sure there will be somebody who decided to "upgrade" to a Pro 5.0 and get rid of the factory Hurst. Personally, I love my factory Hurst and short stick, but some people feel the need to change it. That's your gain for sure.

You may be interested in this shifter then

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Hurst...QQcmdZViewItem

It's a Hurst Competition Plus Short Throw Shifter, you can choose spring tension for it, will feel a lot better than the stocker and requires no modification to install. The Pro 5.0 requires the boot be cut for it to slip over. After test driving a Pro 5.0, the stock, the stock Hurst, and the Comp Plus, I find that the part that makes the stocker the worst is the stick. The rubber isolator really wrecks the feel of the shifter. After that, everything else works out about the same, although I found the Pro 5.0 a bit on the noisy side.
