I remember seeing a post somewhere on here, about pulling out the radio and there is fuse or relay or something back there that controls it.

You'd have to search for it, I can't remember.

Never ever heard of that method.

There are 3 ways to disable the daytime running lights.

1. pull your emergancy brake up 1 click
2. pull the radio out and solder a resistor in Here is the write up: http://www.xse.com/leres/ss/drl.html
3. take your headlight switch out and find the orange wire going to the terminal labeled "G". Cut the wire back from the terminal a little and wrap each end in electrical tape

Great thread; I had the exact same question. Unfortunately, I was hoping there was an easier fix (ie. just pull a fuse, etc).

There is a sensor in the defrost vent on the top of the dash. It is beside the little red light that flashes when the alarm is set. Pop off the top half of the dash and you'll see the sensor, pull it out and put a paperclip in the connector(it makes it a complete circuit). Bam no more headlights on during the day.

Here is a pic and a little write up

The automatic headlights are controlled by a light sensor that is mounted on the top of the dash to the right of the defroster vent (next to the red alarm LED). As it gets darker outside, the sensor increases the resistance in the circuit until it reaches a point where the system turns on the headlights. You can disable these by unplugging the sensor and connecting the two wires together using a short piece of wire. This gives zero resistance which makes the system think it's daylight all the time so it never turns on the headlights. You can still control the lights normally using the headlight switch - only the automatic function is affected.

To get at the sensor, you will need to remove both A-pillar trim pieces (the plastic trim running down the side of the windshield to the dash). Then you carefully pry up the main dash cover. It is held in place by a combination of clips and Velcro strips. The edges are very sharp so be careful. You will see the sensor attached to the underside of the panel with two wires connected to it. The sensor can be removed by turning it a quarter turn (like taillight bulb sockets). Just disconnect the two wires from the sensor and connect them together then reassemble the dash and trim.

All that does is stop the headlights from comming on when it gets dark. There is no simple way to override the parking lights comming on as running lights during the day.

The DRLs don't bother most people and in fact most (including me) think they look great during the day.

But yeah, the auto headlight bothers me too. Just wondering, it seems the top of my dash is one large piece. Do I have to pull the whole piece up just to get to that center?

And out of curiosity, do the T/As have auto headlights?

I thought I heard that you could just pull the trim around the radio and the radio to get to the sensor... Worth a try anyway before prying the whole dash apart.

i took off my t-top, then the driver's side pillar, then popped the dash up with a screwdriver, clamped on a scotchlock (or whatever they're called) on the sensor wires, and put everything back on. took less than 5 minutes, now i'm in charge of my lights.

i just pulled the dash board panel up not a big deal it doesn't hurt it at all i didn't have to remove the A-pillar trim pieces though. As far as the DRLs i drive around with the parking lamps and fog lights on all the time anyways. I just think it looks cool
