Trickflow vs. Dart Vs. AFR
Hey guys i decided i want to get a new set of heads but cant decide on which to get. I have good things about all of them and was just wondering which ones are best for my cars setup, mods in sig I talked to a couple of guys and they said Dart 225,s were real good. Talked to some other guys and they said get the trickflows because theyre numbers are better. Also, on the forum ive read that alot of people like the AFRs.

I think out of the box both the AFR's and Trickflows have a slight edge on the Darts. Not a huge amount but they do flow a little better. But the Darts still flow very well and are alot cheaper which is why I went that route.

The TFS and AFR's are both great heads and make good power because they flow so good at low lift. Darts are good but not as good (less $$$ though). If I remeber right TFS flows 317cfm on the intake compared to 297-300cfm for the AFR's at 600 lift. TFS are a little more pricey and require aftermarket roller rockers. Saving for AFR's myself. TFS now makes an as cast head that flows about the same as AFR's ported I have seen in the $1800 ballpark. But you can count on another $400-500 for the rockers and your back to AFR $$$$. One of the performance mags tested several heads and the TFS made the most power but they thought they were tweaked (hand work i assume) by TFS and "ringers". Somebody on here can prolly provide you the link. Pretty much depends on your budget and goals.

They are all good heads so I vote Trick Flow because I had a LT1 car and bought a set of AFR and lost ET with tune, the Darts they say are a good casting but need work and I have seen in person Trick Flow gain out of the box on 2008 regular Corvette 45rwhp over the 243 that came stock on it but that is with a tune.

It depends on what you want. The trickflow heads will cost the most to put on a car due to a different pushrod length and roller rockers that need to be used with them. The AFRs are also great pieces and flow great. Both the Trickflow and AFR heads are CNC heads. The Darts are a great out the box budget piece. They are a cast head and have no CNC work done to them. They are also the cheapest in the bunch. I personally used Dart heads on my previous project due to cost.

When I added TFS 225's to my combination I went from 403/375 to 464/409. I'm sure the bump in CR helped as well from the stock 10.9 to 11.8:1. By the time you have the work done to the Darts so they compare to the TFS, AFR's and ETP's you'll be in similar price range. Do what your budget allows.

I have the TEA/TFS 235cc on a 414ci street car. My car makes 555rwhp and510rwtq. I have 480rwtq at 3000 RPM. I went from old set up 13.1 comp w/Stage 3 LS6 525rwhp to my new set up 11.8 comp w/the TEA/TFS 235 555rwhp and gained 40rwhp under the curve. They flowed 344cfm at .600 lift, 327cfm at .500 and 290cfm at .400. Just a head swap.

When I build another engine, I'll be running TEA ported TFS heads, or AFR's. I still haven't decided either. Good luck. I voted AFR, because I know the most about them and I put them on a friend's 406 in a 68 Camaro. We didn't have before and after dyno numbers, however, the butt-o-meter suggests horsepower and torque improved by 50 or so h.p.

AFR's have been around the longest, and they seem to build a great head and their customer service (at least to members of this forum) is 2nd to none. Hell had it not been for AFR taking the risk and diving into the then unchartered waters of gen3 aftermarket heads, we might all still be playing with stock castings. That said, I will agree with one of the other posters, while the AFR's may be great, I think there are better heads now even if only slightly better. Of the 3 posted I would choose the TFS heads.
