Default Will this be a close one??? Pred-z, Patrick-g??

I was told that with this cam

230/232 .615/.595 XFI/XE-R On a 111+2

And these heads

TEA 2.5 5.3 63cc.

That I would have to fly cut.

Is this true. Does anybody have any experince with this combo, or close to it?

Yes....it will be tight.

It all depends on how much clearance you feel is enough.

It will certainly be a fair amount less than the textbook .080/.100 minimum.

Fly cutting would be a good idea to have additional peace of mind. The LSA is the deal breaker for you IMO

with my cam 230/230 .612 .590 on a 111+2 i had .085 on the intake valve and around .125 on the exhaust...this is with stock heads 241s and stock gaskets...

when it was on a 111+4 it was a little to close for me with the intake at .072 and exhaust .140...so i retarded it 2 degrees to 111+2...hope this helps

My cam has .003 more lift than yours, and my heads are 63cc, With OEM Head gaskets. What are the stockers?? 64cc??

Well if anything, I will do like you and retard the cam 2 degrees, and that will put me at 111 straight up. And then measure form there, and see were I sit.

And hey, what clay did you guys use for checking, Did you just buy some at a hardware store or something?

How long does it take for them to get here, if I was to rent them???? JPH???

You can get modeling clay at your local hobby store.

This was straight from Mike@TEA.

With a 5.3 head assume anything over 228 will not fit until it is checked to make sure. I cannot tell you to go ahead and run that and it will be okay because I have seen 232 cams crash!-Mike

So I guess I will be flycutting. Just to be safe.

Since you're going to flycut (which isn't that big of a deal anyway) go ahead and run a .040 gasket and bump your compression, just flycut a little deeper.

I would go ahead and flycut just for safety reason and run a cometec gaskit with .040 size. JMO!

I'm in pretty much the same boat as you now. I'm gunna be running a T2 with 60cc TEA 5.3's and .040 cometic gaskets. If you're flycutting anyway, you might wanna think about milling the heads to bump the compression. I calculated mine right at 11.5:1 SCR.

If I was to mill any more. Like down to a 61cc. Will I still be able to run 92 octane???

I was thinking the same, if I am to fly cut, might as well run the cometics.

With the .040 Cometics, and I mill it to 61cc, what would that bring my CR up too??

A 61cc head will bring you to roughly 11.3:1 SCR and 8.6:1 DCR, and with a .040 cometic your quench should be about .034 which is tight enough to get away with that compression ratio. (tighter quench = less chance for detonation)

So 92 oct should be good? As long as its good gas. lol

It depends on the tune as well, you'll need a good tune, tight quench, and quality gas. Cover those bases and you should be good. Just FYI with the 63cc heads you would be at 11:1.

I would be at 11:1 with 63cc and .040 Cometics???

Thats still not to bad. I may just do that. Instead of spending the extra on getting them milled. And hoping my tuner can tune it good enough to run 92 with no additive..

I can't wait till I get this going, I think its going to be a pretty nice set up.

I will run my LS6 for now, and later down the road put either a 90/90 set up, or the new Mani thats coming out from Wieand

Yup, those a definitely some kick *** heads, should be a really nice combo. Whatever you end up doing, good luck with it.
