Default I have a couple of camshaft questions!

Well I just kinda decided that I wouldn't mind doing a camshaft. I don't really care for the performance of the camshaft. I REALLY want a camshaft for the sound. I have a freind with a 98 SS with the same exhaust as I have but with Hooker LT's and a TR cam(its either a 226/228 or a 228/226 I can't remember which though) and I really like the way it sounds, BUT I have an automatic car and I really don't want to go with that much duration but I was looking at the TR 224/227(b/c I do have nitrous) and the TR 224/224 but I haven't heard either of those camshafts. I am looking for something that hits pretty hard BUT something that isn't going to require 6800 rpm to get the results.

It will probably be a while before I do this b/c I am shutting the car down for now and I don't want to do any more mods until the weather comes back around so that I can get some better times out of the car( I wanna see how fast I CAN go with my set up now----like some 10 second passes on nitrous w/out headers).

I was also wondering if tuning is an option or HAVE to be done to get an automatic car to even run? Since I will be doing the cam myself, I will have to transport it to TR to get it tuned and I would like to drive there if possible.

I think that about covers it for now.

Since you're doing it more for sound than performance, go easy on the lift, maximize the duration and minimize the Lobe Separation Angle. The GM Hot Cam would be a good choice, or the new Comp Cams XR273HR (220/224) or XR277HR (224/228 both have a 112 LSA and spring-friendly lift in the 0.530s.

Because of the traditional split of the Hotcam, it really responds well to nitrous, too. I think there's your winner!

Can't beat the price; but do you have emissions testing in your area?
