Default 03 Silverado LS7 427 4wd. What trans?

I would like all the input I can get please. I am finishing up my 2003 silverado with my LSX 427 and would like some help figuring out which transmission I should use; 4l80e or T56. The truck was originally a 5.3 with an auto. I put a 408 in the truck and went through two 4l60's in a month. I think I should be somewhere around 650-700 horse at the motor now. Truck weighs around 4000.

I was originally intending on a T56 and a divorced transfer case, however, I am second guessing myself now. I want the T56 for better mileage and the ability to put more power to the ground.

However the 4L80 will be easier and cheaper to install, but get worse mileage

Traction with either doesn't seem to be a problem with 4wd, but the T56 will probably break before the auto.

I guess i'm just trying to figure out which one will be faster from like 0 to 130.
For instance, i believe if you took two stock camaros, one auto vs one stick, the stick will be faster at the strip. But if both cars had 1000RWHP then I believe the auto will be faster. So at what point do you switch from auto to stick to run a better time? Let me hear your opinions.

I totally agree, but this is a 4x4 truck. If there is any good off-roading, I think an auto has some advantages in off road if it's up to me.

It would be alot more fun having a T56 than the 4l80e for sure. There's gotta be a way to make them as strong or stronger than the auto. Cool project! Post pics when available!

I had to bring this thread back, lol. I'm about to swap in a 427 stroker into my truck. Mine is going to end up around the same weight as yours...maybe a little heavier...4200 or so. I don't know what you do with yours...but if it's going to see any off-road time I would go with the 4L80E...unless you're a skilled stick driver.

I was contemplating the idea of a T-56 with a divorced NP-205 T-Case...it's possible but you're going to have to give Advance Adapters (www.advanceadapters.com) a call and tell them what you're about to do. I didn't know it, but apparently the output shaft on the T-56 has some sort of issue with having a functional 4-WD or some ****, IDK, it's been about a year since I had that conversation with them. Basically, you could do it...but the T-56 is not going to last long...according to AA. But if you did decide to go that route...I would get in contact with one of the site sponsors to custom build you a T-56 to handle the 427.

With that being said...is there any sponsors on this board that will build a T-56 with custom gears? Say if I decided to still try the T-56, I would want a high 1st gear (5.61) granny style , 2nd gear (low 3's), so on and so on with the stock T-56 5th and 6th gears.

It seems to me, many off-road situations really wear on a manual clutch.

I never understood this?

Seriosuly, you want to make 500hp, and get 20mpg?

I never understood this mentality, let me make it faster, AND get good fuel mileage.

Sounds to me you don't need performance if your worried about how many mpg's you get.

You know how many MPG I get to a tank???? I have no idea, because frankly I don't give a ****..Its performance, so therfore when its empty...re-fill it
