The gears are the motive 3:73. my local shop installs everything for 225. Reason im asking is because i read on here that gears are use less without a aftermarket converter. is this true??

Actually from what I have read and heard the 10 bolts last quite a bit longer in the A4 cars than they do in the M6 cars. The way an automatic car launches is much easier on the rear end because there is always load on the drivetrain because the car is always trying to move forward. An M6 car there is no load at all and then as soon as the clutch is dropped its BAM and all that torque and power is now instantly transfered to the rear end and its that sudden load that breaks things. If you dont have the cash for a 9 inch I would say yes its worth spending the money on the gears but others may disagree.

I spent $355 on the Motive 3.73's and install and new fluid with additive. Was my 2nd mod for the car (other mod is a lid). Definitely worth it, especially in an a4. Went from 14.0 @ 101 in 80 degree air to 13.3 @ 105 in 60 degree air after the gear change. Same 60fts. Hope that answers your question about whether you should do it or not! I had 2.73s in my car previously btw.

I believe SS and WS6 A4s what 3.23s and non SS and WS6 could have 3.08s or 2.73s it would depend on the RPO codes. I believe GU5 is for 3.23s. Yes somebody goin from 2.73s would notice more of difference but you would still notice a big difference as well. Goin from 3.23s in an A4 is the same as going from 3.42s to 4.10s in a M6. Its one of the best mods i have done IMO. You will be very happy with them. Just my .02

Its the pumpkin cover when you look under the *** end of you car in the middle where the "10" bolts are. Suppose to be strong and help the rear end from gernading. At least thats my take on it.
Didnt know that gillbot must be its just with the WS6 then because i believe the A4 come standard with 3.23 and the M6s with 3.42s

I have a A4 car with 3.23 gears and I will be doing a 3.73 soon since I already have a 3000stall in the car I think the gears will really wake it up off the line and more so on a roll. I would definetly get the 3.73s and it will be alot more fun but you will have a hooking problem off the line im sure
