Doing a swap? Or building up existing car?
Call the local junk/wrecking yards. Check out www.car-part.com they are a central repository of junkwards all over canada/usa and lists the parts you are looking for. Good luck

Im thinking that I may not find the whole package together, but its still making me reluctant o buy individual components at this point. I need a short block anyway. Its for an Rx-7 ( don't hate on me please )
Any SB Chevy engine and lots of transmissions. - im a manual kind of person
This is a little info from grannysspeedshop.com
For a manual trans car, we recommend using the B/W T-5 5spd or the B/W T-56 6spd from a '82-up Camaro/Firebird. The shifter location for either of these transmissions work out great for the RX-7, and no modification to the RX-7's interior plastic is needed (The shifter ends up 1" rear of center in the '79-'80
Typical weight gain for a 1st gen car is only 75-125 lbs
I have talked to someone with a wrecked LT1 T56 - I think it was a trans am 96 or 95 . I never did find out the miliage but he was asking 4000 I think
Im worried about having to pair up transmision to engine, I hear the LT1 's
T56 is different from the LS1 's T56, can they all be adapted to eachother - this is an area that I really know nothing about. the mustang's T5 can work with a LS1 as well . Basically Im trying to find the whole deal together so I don't have to deal with this kind of thing.
what do you guyes think is my best bet ? - should I buy a wrecked car ?

What leads you to believe that I should be researching more? - am I missing something? Im a member at v8rx7forum.com, I just figured that this site ( having a canadian area) and a LS1 focus would put me in contact with a seller more easily.

I just thought, all that you are asking has been covered on that forum, sorry if I offended you. I am here to help if you need something regarding the swap, which model RX-7 are you building?FD, FC, FB? How much are you looking to spend on the motor and tranny complete? Pm me if you have any questions.

Totally not offended , just wondering where you were coming from. Im really just interested in trying to find a used motor and tranny in my area. Its looking like I may have to see a junkyard.
Im hoping to do 2 to 3000 for the engine tranny set up. I have a 1979 rx7
I really don't know if im going to find what im looking for for that range, but ...
- and thanks for the help,
Reebo

Reebo check on kijiji and in your local want adds. The truck engines turn up fairly frequently nowadays but f body drop outs are less common in Canada so you might have to look South. Check out the conversions/hybrids section you'll find lots of info over there if you post up that your looking for an engine/trans combo. Good luck

Arnprior AutoParts has them some times. I know a couple of people who have bought complete LS1s from them.
Check them out at http://www.a-oautoparts.com/en/index.html
I've bought parts from them in the past and they are a reputable place and about 30 minutes from Ottawa on the 417 West.

Hey Reebo as far as the t56-6spd the difference between the ls1 and lt1 isthe input shafts are different lenths so if you get an ls1 get a t56 from an ls1 unless you don't mind changing the input shaft, about $200.00 for a new shaft plus teardown.good luck

Hey Reebo, you have to keep checking the forums,we were looking for a t56 for my sons car 87GTA and i probably checked for 3 - 4months till we finally found 1.Paid 1500 with clutch master slave bellhousing. You'll probably find a motor and trans on the US side easier than here, but the smartest thing would be to ship to a warehouse by the border and pick it yourself, you pay only gst and pst.Much cheaper to ship around the US than to ship to Can as most of the transports will charge you brokeredge fees.As always buy from reputable sellers, most have trader ratings.
good luck Bram

Ya I know all about brokerage fees, the 40$ on a 20$ item seems to hurt the most.
All the replies were real helpful, I think I have a better Idea of what to be looking for.
