Since it has the 7" Snowflake wheels that means it doesn't have WS6 and therefore cannot be a W72 400 4spd so if it actually is a 4spd its going to be a 301. And yes they did put 301 in `79 T/A's I don't remember off the top of my head but it's something stupid like 1400 cars were equipped that way.

According to The Standard Catalogue of Firebird, "Later in that model year, the W72 engine package could be ordered in Trans Ams without the Ws6 package for $75 extra." This is referring to 1978 Trans Ams. For 79 it states "...the higher performance T/A 6.6-liter four-barrel v-8 as a $90 option."
There is no mention of a distinction between or a pairing of the Ws6 and a L78 (option code for the T/A 6.6). All T/A 6.6s had the 4-speed. If the car is all original, it is a T/A 6.6. If not, then it is cloned and chances are it was not a Trans Am, since the only engine that had both trannys was the 301.

Considering the level of grammar, or lack thereof, in the ad, I personally would be concerned with the description of the car. My grammar is far from perfect, but I try to make it seem somewhat intelligible whenever I sell online. That person makes it seem like they barely speak english or are too lazy. If lazy is the case, then they would be too lazy to appropriately list dammage to the car. Nevertheless, if they live close to you, then take a look at the car; afterall, a look can't hurt.
