Default Will Nitto's 275/40/17 fit stock wheels w/out rolling the fenders?

im going to change the tires and i've been to Nitto's 555r drag radials are good, im looking to do this soon. My question is will 275/40/17 fit the stock wheels without rooling the fenders? if not whats the highest i can go without rolling the fenders?

i think you have to stick with the stock tire size on a gto.

A lot of folks (myself included) run the Nitto 275/40 R17's on the stock 17" rim. That being said a few people have had rubbing issues. It has to do with the rear cradle alignment. A respected suspension guru on LS1GTO.com once stated about 50% of the GTO's he's seen have their rear cradle out of alignment. So its really a 50/50 shot if you look at it that way.

That being said the Nittos run a little narrower than BFG's or Mickey Thompsons. (I have pics of the Nittos and MT's somewhere). So if you stick with the Nittos you "should" be OK. Also I wouldn't recommend the Nittos for daily driving. They are fun in the rain! And since they are on a rim that is technically "too narrow" they tend to roll shoulders on hard turns.

Mine didn't rub. Like Radkon said, you should be fine.

I run those tires. They only slightly run at the track. great grip and pretty decent wet traction as well.

I had those on for over 10K miles and never rubbed. Only a handful of people have said they rubbed. Very good chance you wouldn't have a problem.

yes, they should fit (if your alignment is good)
you will have to roll (or cut) the fenders to get Mickey Thompsons to fit tho

The nitto's do work pretty good in the rain, mine are almost gone and they still do good. The M/T ET Street radials are terrible in the rain. BFG drag radials are next to go on.

275 Nittos will be extremely close. 285 Nittos will rub on both sides (aftermarket wider rim). 275 M/T's will almost certainly rub on both sides. ANY cradle misalignment, however, and the 275 Nittos may rub on one side or the other.

Cradle alignment seems to be pretty good on mine. I didnt rub with 275/40 ET Radials, those run wider than Nittos.

I personally don't see a need to run the 275's unless you're in the 11's. I have no problem with traction (mid 12's) and neither did my friend (ran 11.8) with nitto 245's.

I might go with the mickey thompson ET street 245/18s on 2 stock rims. Should be fine with that and they hook harder than nitto's

I think they would if you have Drag bags installed and inflated. I ground mine prior to installing drag bags, but think I could have avoided that.

Wow... redgoat brought this thread back from the dead.

And, one question: Who is actually concerned with how drag radials perform in wet conditions?????
