Default New Cam, Need reassurance please..

Moderators please do not move-asked same "?" in Tuning, but all the cam guys are in here. TIA.

Ok, threw in a TR 224/.563@114 cam and associated items, w/ ASP pulley. No tuning yet, did drill TB to idle. Went to the track and havent improved time or trap speed enough to even account for the cam. *Using the Predator* I gave the car an additional 2* of timing, no change. Also adjust WOT fuel from -5% to +5% and no change. Earlier I had seen some knock and was only getting 20.4* of timing due to the low octane table not being matched to high octane yet, but after modifying parameters seen 29.x* of timing on last few runs. Is this something or nothing to be worried about???

Kinda got me a little nervous wondering if tuning is really that big an impact.

TIA.

Charlie

My cam was predator tuned after the install to mediocre results.
It took a full LS1 Edit on the dyno to really milk out the power.

You need to log your car. It is very difficult (near impossible) to tune your car without knowing what values the computer is getting (O2 sensors, LTFTs, etc...) Making changes and doing runs to time your car is not a good way to do it. You are making changes blindly.

Good luck.

Well i am using the predator like I said, and monitored my LTFTs and O2's at cruise and WOT and all that. I havent gotten my cam tune back yet, but even so, its hard to swallow that soo many people can install a cam in an otherwise stock car, and run soo much better. I fear my car is the runt of the family and this doesnt help much. Maybe it is all tuning and I am just too frustrated right now. Thanks for replies.

Slap it on the dyno for a wideband tune on Edit if your cam tune doesn't perform.
Your car is not a runt.

So for some cars this type of attitude is normal when untuned? Never read anyone having so little results untuned before. I can feel it part throttle-hell I chirped 'em going into second-it never did that before, but cant do it WOT...
Damn fuel and spark.

OK, update. I ran a abuot 3 or 4 mph faster in the 1/8th but not in the qtr. WTF, is this due to running so rich and maybe not the right timing?

I have never used the Predator, but my guess is you are losing timing due to the IAT readings out there. The PCM thinks it is too hot and is pulling out timing. I know you can defeat this in Edit, but not sure about Predator.

A wideband is the only real solution. Get on Bode's dyno and borrow the wideband from the import guys down the street. Or, if you are desperate, go see Steven in Kaneohe. He has a wideband on his dyno, which is much easier to tune with.

Get rid of the predator, and get yourself an LS1 edit dyno tune from someone who knows what they are doing.
Thats the ONLY way to do it, your wasting your time attempting to tune a cam with a predator IMO.
