Good deal Chris. Glad you are doing it yourself. I find that those people who tune their own cars are happiest in long run. That way you know everything about your car inside and out and know what it takes to perform in every situation.

P0332 is low circuit. Prolly gonna be the harness. I pinched mine a long time ago when I installed my LS6 intake and got that code. I cut the wire where it was damaged and spliced it then taped it down. Worked up until here recently. Now im getting the coe again so I'm gonna be ordering a new harness and replacing sensors since I'm already there.

Pulled the trigger on my hood. Goin with the Ultra Z from True Fiber with free shipping!!
Here's an idea of what it'll look like. The lighting is wrong cause anybody that has seen NBM in the sun knows how it pops. Mine is no exception cause it's fairly clean for its age and still pops real good. Just need to hide that ugly scratch on the rear bumper now.
http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w181/Blue98z/ultra-z.jpg
It's already ordered, so like or dislike it's about to happen. It's different for the area seeing how most you see are either SS or cowl hoods.

I've been considering some type of ghosting, but unsure of what just yet. I'm not much on the stripes on these cars unless it's a hardtop. I'm also not a flashy person which is why my car doesn't have very much bling. I like simple and subtle hints of things. My wheels are polished, but will most likely go back with chrome and my emblems are polished stainless. Other than that it's pretty simple. I do like flames and women (hence the nickname of my car) just not sure what I wanna do just yet, so for now it'll most likely just get painted to match.

So 10% or 25% under drive pulley?
blue98Z
07-21-2011, 10:04 PM
I've been running a 25% for the past couple of years. The only problem I noticed is when the a/c is on full blast and I'm stopped with my foot on the brake. Voltage drops to around 10, but I'm a stick so I can control roll with the clutch most of the time. If I turn the fan speed down it doesnt drop that bad. Not sure about stereos since I'm still running a fairly stock monsoon system still.

Just had Todd tune it. He knows his stuff for sure. Your not going to find another tuner around here willing to put in that kind of time and effort. The car is a beast now. Any tuner who puts his time and effort into a tune like Todd does deserves rave reviews. Enough about who he is as a person. As a tuner he's amazing. The car pulls so much better and slams through the gears with no problem. You looking for a built car, or want something to build yourself? I'm pulling my 99 T/A out of storage tomorrow, and have been mulling over putting it all together, or selling as a roller so someone can tailor it to their needs.
My friend in Iraq bought a WS6 from a dealer in Killeen and I got back from trailering it here last night for him. I drove it today to his place till he gets back, and I can't believe it was my dream car for so long and I never drove one. I'm not sure I could live with it as a DD, I love my GTO even more now as far as comfort goes. My only dilema is I like toys to be paid for...T/A is paid for and I have the 6.0, t56 and all the goodies, or just assemble, sell, and use it to pay down the GTO then do H/C on it. Not complaining though. Five years ago I don't think I would've dreamed to have such a dilema.
On a side note, has anyone around here had a window shatter from the heat? Last week the GTO sat for 3 days, I went to drive it and the driver's window was spiderwebbed throughout. Neighbors lawns weren't freshly cut, no rocks in the street at all near the car either. Window isn't pushed in at all, just seems really wierd. By the way, it's really good to be back in the states, hopefully my new window from Cleveland Pick A Part will get here tomorrow and I can make one of these meets.

Never had a window shatter from heat. Dont think I've even heard of that. I have had a few windshield's crack from a previous rock peck due to excessive heat but never a side window. Bet a small rock got it just right from a weedeater/edger. Just a guess really.

On the other hand the truck starts by the key now. Wiring up gauges and bleeding brakes should finish the truck. Still want to go over the whole truck to make sure everything is tight and make sure i didnt over look anything.

Was it tinted. Tinted Windows hold more heat instead of letting it pass through. I've seen tinted t tops that shattered. I also heard my mother n laws rear van window bust a couple summers ago. Sounded like a gun shot.

Soo... for some dumb reason I got to drive a new Cruze LTZ with the 1.4t. Gotta give it to em... it was a nice little turd. It wasnt terribly underpowered. Prolly ran as good as my 5.3 truck. The leather is some of the softest I have touched. The padding... not so much lol. Overall it was a nice car for a 23k sticker.
No... I had and still have no plans to get out of my fuel hogging, high horsepower vehicles.

My back glass shattered and fell, in pieces, into the inside. I'm still finding pieces.
Back in the day my dad's dodge dart had a window explode from heat buildup. It was also a convertible. He always parks with windows cracked when it's hot now.

Thanks, makes me worry less about neighbors walking by punching my windows or something. Yes it was a tinted window. It didn't shatter and fall in, it just spiderwebbed into a thousand pieces and is still in place by the laminate. I kindof thought it was from heat because I couldn't see a real point of origin as if there was a strike. I'm not from around here, and I've just never seen that before. I threw a bunch of tape all over it on both sides in hopes that I can get it out without getting all over my interior. FedEx says today, so we'll see.

The trans is rated to 650 whp but if it gives out I'm swapping to a manual. I've had several 700r's in hot rods and never had a problem before. Only problem I think ill have it the truck breaking loose when it hits 2nd and 3rd at wot. My old blazer had a solid shift but this kit should hit much harder.

Depends on what tires they are. Some street tire are ok on the track but 90% are worse on the track compared to the street. Street is rough compared to the track so most grab the street better.

Andy's 360hp m6 on normal street tires. Spun all the way down the track and even barked 4th gear at finish line. On street none of those problems at all. Hell hooked better on half wet roads. M6 on street tires worthless at track. You should have around 50-70 more HP then him so will be even worse for u.

Street tires suck pretty much no matter where you are to me. Everytime i have ever ran with street tires all i do is get pissed. If they are better on the track it wont be by much wether you do a burnout or drive around the water. All you can do is go try

blue98Z
07-27-2011, 02:05 PM
Street tires suck at the track period! They can make you into a really good driver though IMO. Track prep is vital though and TRRP is still hit or miss but you need to realize that in street trim your front wide tires drag lots of water up onto the launch pad so it's hard to gauge the track in street trim.
As far as Firebird Formulas I like'em
AndyIsLost
07-27-2011, 02:30 PM
Fuck street tires on the track. and they won't let you go around the water box, so I just drag water with my front tires onto the track. but good luck getting a decent time at the track!

its the rod bolts u have to worry about and u have arp's ;)
The ideal clearance should be .090 - .125 for 700r4. On 4l60. and i see .080" - .125" range. If you have more than this, you will need to bring it in range, by using machined washers, and what ever thickness is needed to do this "all three" washers must be "exactly" the same thickness to reduce this clearance.
SAE washers are usually a perfect shim. About .060 in thickness and all equal

No Wade, when i put the trans in i have about 1/4 inch before the converter hits the flex plate. We done some research and there is a common problem with 700r4. Inside the pump there is a bushing sleeve that tends to walk forward on new transmissions. When it walks forward it blocks the drain back hole and causes the trans to keep building pressure. The front seal is the weakest link and thats where the pressure goes.
I pulled my trans today to find a good pump seal that was blown out of the front pump. It wasnt all the way out but it pushed it out far enough to blow the pressure out of the bottom of the seal where it meets the pump. I flicked the seal with my fingernail and the seal popped out onto the input shaft. Taking it to my builder around 6 and he is going to pull it apart and see if thats what the problem is. If that is all thats wrong the trans it may be back in tonight. I sure do hope this is the last time it comes out for awhile. Next time it comes out ill be selling it and buying a built th400 and a big ass stall. If i cant have OD why not have a big stall?

It wasnt all the way out but it pushed it out far enough to blow the pressure out of the bottom of the seal where it meets the pump. I flicked the seal with my fingernail and the seal popped out onto the input shaft. Taking it to my builder around 6 and he is going to pull it apart and see if thats what the problem is. If that is all thats wrong the trans it may be back in tonight. I sure do hope this is the last time it comes out for awhile. Next time it comes out ill be selling it and buying a built th400 and a big ass stall. If i cant have OD why not have a big stall?
Just throwing this good deal out there

I really appreciate the hospitality gentlemen. It's nice when you are so far from home. I'm stopping in Longview for the night. I hope this is the last one of these drives I have to make.
In other good news aside from Jonny and Steve's, I have decided I am going to sponsor Hilton in his toughman contest. We wish you the best in the event.
And, good to meet you Chris, your FI setup is very sweet. For the others who showed interest, I will keep you in mind for future upcoming promotions.

SD tunes They r not needed. No maff and no 02s. My car has been tuned that way for 50,000 miles. Has been driven in as high as 120deg to-15deg weather. When u have a SD tune I always suggest get a wideban.
I have an SD tune and my o2's are still functional. On a side note it was good to meet you Tom. I am sure steve and johnny are gonna have a blast with whats going to happen with their rides. And I appreciate the case of Rockstar, ashley will be sure to drink them. Tom I see you did decide to cancel your sponsorship with tech, sorry to see that, I hear they want a butt load of $$ to be a sponsor on here

My o2's are still functional aswell. they made me run a little rich when I put the ls6 intake after the tune.

Yes u can still have them functional i do and that's what most tuners will do if u don't have a wide ban which I didn't have at 1st. A full SD tune they loose them completely. Had a few turners tell me I don't have a full SD tune because My o2s kick on at 1500rpms. I'm open loop till 1500 And at 1500 it kicks into closed loop.

Congrats on the sponsorship fellas! That's awesome!!! Tom, I'm glad you were able to find some quality cars to sponsor in the area.
As far as SD tunes go, it is always wise to leave the front O2s on. That way, when there is a weather change it will continue to run properly. It is a "true" SD tune. That's the way cars before mafs ran, it's the way the tuning schools teach as well. The fact that you don't run a maf makes it true SD. So, those people who told you it wasn't ought to read up on that.
Now, when you tune it (in order to tune it properly), you tune without the sensors on and use a wideband, but once you're done, turn them back on so the cars can adjust to weather and driving conditions. :D
Oh...Andy, the O2 sensors didn't cause your car to run rich. They were correcting the rich condition caused by you changing your intake. Just fyi.

Ok because I ran into a lil bit of a problem taking the o2's out today, and todd i'll be giving you a call once I sell this borla cat back:D. They were so hard to break loose that I had to spray a lil wd-40 to break them loose, and once they were loose I got like a half of a turn then it was super hard again:mad: So I stopped bc i didn't wanna strip anything out. By the way here's the car

Just what Todd said.
You can have an open loop tune in speed density or MAF based. Speed density has nothing to do with the 02's, only the functional status of the MAF.
Open loop SD
Closed loop SD
Open loop MAF
Closed loop MAF
All are options.

Got the trans pulled apart and found a broken teflon seal on the input shaft. Everything else was clean and seemed to be in brand new condition. I just got home with the trans and im about to go install it. My fingers are crossed that this will be it. Im ready to bring this thing to town and see the looks on peoples faces as i pass by lol.

Today driving Dorothy the voltage gauge went all the way down. Something is wrong. Either the battery is bad, the alternator is bad, or I've got a bad ground somewhere.
The battery is a red top, which I've killed 2 of already; so it may be time for another "non-red top" battery. The alternator was rebuilt a few years ago to 140 amp from the stock 107 amp. I've got a 25% underdrive crank pulley, but I'm also overdriving the alternator with a smaller pulley.
Thoughts?
Also, I remember a while back we had an "F-Body friendly" hookup who owned a shop where they set up suspensions, did alignments, were able to balance Prostars, etc.
I can't remember who it is.

Did you bother to check voltage anywhere? when the car is running check for 14 volts off the alternator....If not 14 volts make sure your grounds are ok and also check harness for voltage going to the alternator which tells it to come on you should have atleast 12 volts to the plug.... If all those check out fine get a new battery

If u have a aftermarket system and added some speakers/amp check for some grounded hot wires on the power wires to amp and remote wire. I've seen that do it b4.
Hilton

The battery was so low I was concerned I wouldn't make it home. None of the power shit worked. All the dash lights were on, couldn't roll up the windows, etc. I put it on the charger when I got home. The first three times it wouldn't charge and came back with an error code. It's currently charging, but I keep checking on it to make sure it doesn't need to be reset. This doesn't necessarily mean that the Red Top is bad. They sometimes can be hard to recharge once they get this low.
The "jump box" has an alternator tester on it. I'll use that to see what I can find out.
I took the sub out and put wire nuts on the power and remote wires before going to the track last time.
