Default timing chain

Ok, so I am doing a cam install and trying to determine whether or not to buy just a chain or the kit with gears also, I have 100,000 miles on the car

We have new Cloyes kits available for $43.99 + Shipping.

Might as well just do that. It comes with an LS2 cam gear, but it doesn't matter in your application.

The LS2 is set up for the cam sensor on the front of the cam rather then on the back. You can use an LS2 in place of the LS1, but not the other way around.

I believe the cloyes are single non roller for that price, I know cloyes carries a roller chain but, its still a single. I would do both the chain and gears because they wear together.

Single Roller, we use them in every single one of our engines with no failures, and we have race cars spinning to 7400RPM.

The LS2 chain is a stronger design than the LS1. There really is no need for an aftermarket setup for what you are doing.

With 100K miles on the car, I would take this offer and install two new gears as well. Its only a few extra bucks (screaming deal) and offers peace of mind. The sprocket teeth do wear and when they do they tend to hold the chain longer (chain wrap) which can break the chain.
