Default Major radiator poblem

Friend of mine has a '01 V6 Firebird. About 2 months ago his temp gauge wouldn't even raise when the car was warmed up, it was stuck. He had it flushed and the problem went away for 2 weeks, now it is again not raising past the start point. He flushed again and snaked it to see if there was a clog. Again after 2 or 3 weeks of working fine and raising to operating temps, it is stuck . Is there an air pocket or clog??? Anyone have this problem??

Sounds like his thermostat may be sticking open not allowing the car to heat up. We have a 97 blazer at work and it would not heat up(the heater wouldn't blow hot air. We replaced the thermostat and not it's working.

Is the heat working in your friends car?

The heat comes but it's only warm, it's NOT hot. He says it's lukewarm, feels more like a warm summer breeze. Does that sound like it might be the thermostat?

The heat in the blazer would not blow warm air at all. I think the thermostat could still be a possibility. That would be one of the cheaper things to try to fix it.

nope no leak in the coolant, the temp gauge just won't raise up after a couple of weeks, seems like it takes 2 weeks. any other guesses besides thermo just in case it isn't that?

Don't think it would be the prob, but the first thing I thought was that your temp gauge is just going nuts. I don't think that is it though

It's most likely gonna be the thermastat. The fact that the heater is only getting warm and not hot is a definitely pointing to that. If it was a faulty Temp sensor, gauge, radiator, or water pump the car wouldn't fail to heat up properly. The thermastat hanging open is the only thing that will cause that.

guys he changed the thermo and so far so good! again though he had everything working right after fluid flush and the problem took 2 weeks to come back so he is hesitant to celebrate until he passes that spot. I believe in your advice though and appreciate the help!!
