Best Direct Replacement for 76GTS?
I am looking to replace my Precision 76GTS turbo and I would like to know what is the best direct fit replacement. I am not looking to change any of the piping, which I currently have a single 3" exhaust. This is in a rear-mounted setup on a 383 engine. I was thinking of just going to the 78GTS but would like to know what else may be out there. I originally wanted to go to the ST80, but I do not want to change to the larger piping. I also considered going to the DBB option that the 78GTS has, but have read many mixed opinions on that issue. Thanks in advance for your help.
P.S. Reason for the change is I would like a small bump in power with minimal effort. 30whp would be ideal.

To be honest with you, I do not do anything related to the tuning, as I use one of the top tuners in the country to handle all of that. I know there are different ways to gain power, but the reason why I mentioned I am only looking for a small gain is to show that I have no desire to move up to a 91 or something dramatic like that, as I would imagine it would require changing the exhaust piping, as well as, would have an effect on spool time. Since it is a rear-mount, I do not want to go to a turbo that is going to be considerably more laggy than the 76GTS, but I would like a little more power from the turbo and something that does not require any changes. Thanks in advance for your help.

Turbo needs to be replaced anyway and I do not want to rebuild it, would rather just get a new turbo. I figured while I am at it, instead of buying the same thing, why not upgrade a little.

I see, well hope my 80 stays together or looks like I have to upgrade my PTK kit to accept an ST80 or larger. I talked to a guy on here who upgraded his kit with a pte88 on his 408. He told me all what he had to do, umm no thanks. If that happens I am probably jsut better off buying a whole new kit!

Thank you for your help. I wasnt sure if there was anything that would be a direct replacement or not, but I am kind of surprised there isn't. What about your FI70 with 81mm turbine wheel, optional race cover and .96 A/R? Would that work in my setup or does it require larger piping? Thanks again.
