Default Stock rearend leaking fluid even after I replaced pinion seal???

SO I took my car to the track and when I got home I noticed that the rearend was leaking a little fluid. It was hard to tell where it was coming from because it hit the driveshaft and went everywhere. So It was mainly dripping where the traction bar connects right under the diff. So I changed the pinion seal and it didn't do anything.

Any idea where this could be coming from?

Well if you changed the pinion seal you should have installed a new crush sleeve and reset the pinion preload. If you did not do this your pinion bearings could be trashed.

Yes, I did install a new crush sleeve and reset the preload. Shouldn't that stop it from leaking?

Not if the yoke is worn. Also if you didnt apply some oil to the seal it can burn up quickly since it will be a dry friction surface.

Check the seal contact surface to see if it has a nick or scratch.

check your yoke for a groove where the seal rides on it,, if it is grooved you can pick up a "speedy sleeve" from the parts store, they seem to work pretty good and they are cheap if you dont want to buy a new yoke

Check to see if your vent is clogged with crap or not.

Learned that in rear axle class. Having that clogged keeps too much pressure in and can cause seals to leak.

Check around the axle tubes where they meet the pumpkin.

There is oil arounf there on both sides, but I think it is just from the oil getting thrown around by the driveshaft.

I have the same problem. Where is the vent located on the axle. Do you have a picture of it?

If your looking at the differential cover, its directly ontop and to the right. Just feel around for it. It may be covered with grease. It should be clean/cleaned.
