Cam suggestions for an LS1 with ETP215s
G'day there all. I know, I know, another 'Which cam?' thread...
Anyhoo, I am wanting to know of any suggestions on a cam to suit my car, specs are:-
LS1 346 - M6 - 3.73:1
LS6 manifold
78mm T/B
ETP 215cc heads (62cc) for approx 11.0:1 scr
1.3/4 longtubes,
3" hi-flow cats,
twin 3" cat-back
currently, Comp 222/224@112.
It is making 380-odd rwhp at the moment (DD Dyno), but I'm wanting a little more top-end and more importantly, mid-range power and torque. I don't want to have to rev to over 6500rpm and it needs to be very drivable - daily. It may see the track 1-2 times a year only.
I was thinking of something in the 228-232 @ .050 range on 111lsa with XE-R lobes.
Any suggestions??

Have a custom grind camshaft designed to fit you specific application and goals. This will give you better results than an off the self camshaft. You can call up a few vendors or you can get a hold of Patrick G, he is a moderator on the boards. He will design a camshaft to fit you specific needs for only $25 USD. Those heads with the proper combination should be a screamer.

Thanks for the input there. I'm hoping that Predator Z may share a recommendation. I'll also look into getting an email sent to Patrick G, but with no PayPal, payment may be an issue (I'm o/s from home).

Your torque numbers are spot on, I haven't seen many make more torque than rwhp on LS1's. Check the dyno section for the Corvette guy with your heads making 511 rwhp. It's a much bigger cam, but it seems those heads would be suited for anything cam-wise, depending on where you want the power.

I just read (took me a long time with my internet speed!) Patrick G's results with this torque monster cam - 224/228 .637/.639 110LSA (+0) - and it got me to thinking.....I wouldn't be overly keen with LSK lobes, but how would XFI lobes go on a cam of similar duration and lsa???

These are the VEs at .050:
8=IVO
42=IVC
51=EVO
1=EVC
115=ECL
9* positive overlap
that will work well with the ETPs, 9* overlap so nice chopchop and in the powerband you desire. Peak ~6200

Decision made and stick is in - woohoo!!!
G'day there all. I thought I'd dig this one back up and let you know that after countless simulations using DynoSim, I ended up with a Comp custom grind 223/227 .636/.639 @112+2 cam. It actually turned out being ground at 224/228 .635/.639 @ 112.59+2.63.
Many thanks to Fraser at SpeedInc for his advice and supply of the cam and associated parts!
Well, the difference is very good and the new cam is much stronger all through the rev-range, with a considerable increase in torque between 3500-5000rpm and increase in power and torque in all other areas.
The dyno pulls were done on a Dyno Dynamics twin-retarder dyno. Power equates to about 395rwhp and 460tq - I am loving the torque.
This one shows that the engine is running a bit rich, between 11.6-12.2 AFRs, so I'll be getting a tune tweak soon.
As far as the valvetrain goes, it is quieter than the previous Comp XE-lobed cam, so I am even happier and the car drives like a dream on the road.

nIce but you are mistaken in trq output, there is no way a 346 will make that much trq on such a small cam and Hp output, 460ft/lbs is stroker teritory, like an over 500 rwhp 400+ cid.

You are probably correct there Pred-Z. The old cam made 610NM according to the last dyno and this was a little higher, so it may be an anomaly in the dyno software for torque values, I dunno.
BTW, thanks for your help - it was much appreciated. I was going to go with your recommendation, but found that the slightly smaller duration cam kept a tad more torque where I needed it to be.
