Default LS6 vally cover on a LS1 , worth it?

Installing a LS6 valley cover on a LS1 , is it worth it,

Instead of sucking oil vaper through the valve covers like on the LS1 set up

How well does the LS6 valley cover and its oil separater work???
my car is procharged, and the PCV line goes down to the procharger intake hat for PCV,

Thank you for your help

I'm thinking of getting that valley cover and running lines from it, and the valve covers through a catch can and back into the intake.

Is there a difference between the valley cover that went on 04 GTO's and the ls6?

I run the LS6 valley cover and PCV with a breather in the pass side valve cover for the last 32,000 miles..no oil consumption or oil in the intake..

I have never needed one as I mentioned in the above post ... the car uses 1/2 quart of oil every 5,000 miles..it has been a 1/2 quart every 5,000 miles car since new...it now has 162,000 + miles on it...I just came back from the Power Tour and it got 26.42 miles per gallon and added no oil on the tour or when I got home ... to me a catch can is dead weight ... please tell me why I need one.

I added one along with the LS6 PCV setup when I did my heads swap. I have an LS6 block so no modification to the valley was needed. The car never burned any noticeable amount of oil and still does not with the LS6 setup.

I installed the LS6 valley cover and still get a little oil in the catch can. It's not a 100% cure all for most engines. And I didn't have to cut my block, but was prepared to.

If I buy an LS6 cover, what do I do with the wiring that comes out of the LS1 valley cover? do I even need to use it?

I will be running a FAST 92 with no emissions equipment at all.

I have the LS1/LS6 block. Casting number 1168

The only wiring that I can think of that comes out of the valley cover is the knock sensor harness.... In that case, you would need to remove your knock sensor harness, remove the knock sensors, remove the LS1 valley cover, install LS6 valley cover (depending on block, some material removal may be required), reinstall knock sensors, reinstall knock sensor wiring harness.

Also, when you install the FAST intake manifold you will recieve some shallow head bolts for the valley cover.. These must be used, if you don't you will likely crack the manifold when you attempt to torque it down.

I put the LS6 valley cover on about 4 or 5 years ago. Useless imo. My car got just as much oil in the intake after the swap as did before. Running a catch can now, intake stays bone dry now.

The part that you have to cut is tiny and very easy. It's not way down inside the valley or anything. I did it and it has helped me as well. I dont like the catch cans because I am always removing stuff from the bay...not trying to add more

http://www.ls1howto.com/index.php?article=18 here's a link how to. If your running boost the more air you can get out of the crankcase the better.

Why bother with a PCV system if you are running a breather? The breather nulls any positive crankcase ventilation (PCV)that the PCV setup would do.

If you use a LS6 Valley cover you need the follwing to duplicate its effectiveness:

>Mod the valley if older block
>Use the true LS6 PCV valve setup
>re-route your PCV lines (removing driver side crossover and capping at outlets with nipples)

Only then will it be as effective as on a true LS6
TR has a full kit.

You don't have to remove the crossover.
