Default Cold Air Intake

I am going to order a CAI and I was wondering if it helped the exhaust sound at all, by making it more throaty. I have Flowmaster right now with no cat but I am getting a magnaflow or hooker ehaust not sure yet.The cold air intake is a lingenfelter CAI and it says on a stock camaro Z28 it produced 12 hp,but K&N only gets like 8.66.Why is that?

They all make about the same hp I believe, just get the cheapest one you find. I didn't notice a difference in my exhaust note when I added the intake.

Werd. The best one to get would be a plastic one like the K&N or take the SLP and have it ceramic coated. Didn't notice any change in exhaust note either.

+1 for that! K&N, Moroso and lingenfelter are going to be your best bets! Will all make good power and a must for modding your car! Like nomoneyz said find the cheapest out of those and go with it! Doubt you will be disappointed!

Go to k&n filters dot com and go under horsepower gains and type in your year and motor size! Thats the only thing that they ask and thats what comes up! (mines a 95 camaro)

Enter your vehicle information to see estimated power gains for each air intake system

that was taken straight from their website. not actual hp gains.

k&n, moroso, lpe pretty much use all the same setup i don't see how either one gains more hp than the other, go with the cheapest you find.

My K&N setup did not make any difference in exhaust sound, but it did make the valve train noise louder if you are standing on the the air filter side of the car. I assume the K & N site's 18.29 HP is for a stock Z probably a hard number to prove unless you have access to a dyno before and after installation. I thought I felt a performance improvement after installing mine, but heck I even get that feeling after and oil change.. IMO adding a free flow air intake system is mandatory before any other performance work. I'm happy with K&N.

The advertised numbers that manufacturers claim are not exactly what you will get and they are basically bull ****. Some may show approximate numbers based off of a stock car and some on a heads/cam stroker but wont tell you that. Its a wonderful marketing/advertising tool because some people buy parts accordingly because they think they will gain the power claimed or gain more power with a similar product produced by a different company. All the good CAI's (LPE, Moroso, K&N) will produce the same amount of power so the cheapest one really is the way to go which would be the LPE unit.
