Default Check out this removable crossbar

Ok, I'm going to be installing a 6 point 4130 roll bar in my Z-28 over the next few weeks. The car is my daily driver and I do have an 11 year old step daughter who rides in the car sometimes, so I was a little concerned about the cross bar. Through some research I found this joit to make it removable. I know that a removable bar is not NHRA legal, but a few guys I've spoken to have gotten past tech with this. It seems much stronger than the traditional method of making a bar removable as these are machined out of solid 4130 and are held with 2 3/8" hardened bolts. These are used in off-road racing all the time, so I don't see them a s being a weak point. That joint should be stronger than the bars around it! Tell me what you think.

If you want to get thru tech, make some type of cover to go over that, because they won't like it regardless how strong it is.

Yeah, I figured as much. A little roll bar padding and no one will know .

Thats a cross bar, not a swing out, so its illegal.

Removable seat cross bars have never been legal to my knowledge. Also, the 3/8" bolts are too small as swing out side bars require 1/2" bolts/pins minimum.

Yes, removable cross bars are illegal, but what do you guys think of this set up from a structural standpoint anyway?

I've used these on rock crawler chassis builds for non-primary loaded tubes and only near the node (like you have it)... It's about the best you get for a removable joint... Quite strong compression and tension, but only as strong as the bolt or threads in shear... Which is good because the crossbar is there to keep the b-hoop from deforming under tension and/or compression. I can't really tell, but I'd recomend a plug weld where the slug slides inside the tube.

Not legal, so it doesn't matter.
