Question old school 350 V8 in a 97 camaro?

Hey has anyone put in an old school 350 Chevy V8 in a 97 Camaro? im over hauling a second 350 and putting it in our 79 Corvette and i was thinking about putting the old 350(L82) that was in the Corvette in my 97 Camaro since we would have a second one just sitting around. i think it would be really cool to mix a little old school with new school and plus i just like the look of a carbureted engine under any hood. Does anyone know how difficult this would be or if the transmission would bolt up or if they make some kind of conversion plate? Thanks for any suggestions or ideas.

It's much better the other way around.... get an old car and put a newer engine in it. Old cars are more fun and newer engines are way better. Your idea sounds horrible- You'll have a slow car that gets bad gas mileage and is a pain in the *** to work on!

Sounds like a good idea. It would be something different. I think a T56 from an LT1 will bolt right up to it. I'm not really sure though.

You might have clearence problems with the carb and air cleaner under the cowl. It would be cool to see it though.

actually the ls1 t56 bolts right up, minus 1 bolt from the bellhousing, the lt1 input shaft is shorter.

Man I would love to do that exact same thing, I have a '57 Chevy Bel Air that I plan on putting an LS1 engine and 6 speed tranny in and then take the 468 big block from my 57 chevy and see if there is any way i can squeeze it into a 2001 Camaro or try to put in a carbureted 355 small block that i just have laying around looking for something to drop into. I think you should put that vette 350 in there and let us know how it goes with pics, so when i get around to it i'll have a little heads up on what to look for if I run into any problems. Keep us posted anyway, if you plan on still doing it or if you decide not to.

A small or big block chevy can fit in a 4th gen car with no major problems. When you put a carb on it, you run into hood and cowl clearance problems. I don't know how hard it would be to work on a BBC in one, but I wouldn't want to do it.

You gotta love a 4th gen with a blower sticking through the hood. That T/A is awesome.

Hell yeah i think its a good idea. in the next couple of months im pulling the v6 out of my 02 camaro and putting a 350 in it. the only problems i think you would have is with the hood and cowl clearance. your gonna have to cut the cowl and find a hood that clears. but personally i would rather have a 350 than an ls1 or lt1. i just hate fuel injection.

Check out the sbc/bbc forum. There is a sticky at the top of the page with a lot of info. I had a 383 built for an iroc i had. I ran across the chance to get my 94 v6 with a blown motor for cheap and i couldnt resist. Mine is 383/t56. Its not that difficult of a swap.
