So Im looking for a set of new roller lifters for some swapping Im doing (hydraulic roller) to get a little more power. Ive seen alot of roller lifters advertised as SBC, LT1, and LS1 compatible. So as the title says..is a roller lifter a roller lifter as long as its going into a small block they are all compatible?

Any tips or info here would be great.

not sure what your question is here but if the lifter has roller on the bottom, it's a roller lifter.

i can only assume you mean installing hydraulic rollers on a Gen I SBC that didn't originally come with rollers, and in which case i can see the confusion since that would put this thread th wrong section

in which you will need retro fit lifters which have a link bar between them to keep them from spinning in their bores, which will cost you around 450-500 bucks

No..he is asking if roller lifters are the same for sbc,LT1, and LS1...the answer is yes. Those lifters will interchange in any or those motors..same lifter.

i realize that SBC, LT1 and LS1 roller lifters are interchangeable but not if he was installing rollers into a block that didn't originally come with them

the reason they wont interchange is because the lifter bosses are taller on the gen I and Gen II SBC's to accommodate the longer lifter along with having provisions for the lifter spider to keep the lifters from spinning

The SBC's that didn't originally come with roller lifters have the shorter lifter bosses and lack the provisions for the spider


but maybe the OP wasn't specific enough maybe he'll come back and give us a heads-up

I use the comp 'R' lifter in my motors and have always worked out great.

Any 1987 and up OEM roller lifter should interchange. That being said, there are some preload differences between them, most notably comp R and morel lifters.

thanks for backing up your posting with the intense knowledge we all presume you have since you worked for comp

in reality if indeed he is planning on going roller in a block that wasn't originally roller you cant just pick up a set of lifters for an LT1 or LS1 or L98 and toss them in since it will not work

I wasn't being sarcastic. I was just nicely telling you that I already new that information. I was just trying to answer his question short and direct to the point. Now if you want an education on lifters...i'm sure I could school you on some things. Since he is in the internal section of the GEN3 I would hope he is asking about a drop in OEM roller lifter...if not ...his thread should go elsewhere.

why would the OP want to install roller lifters to increase power??

so i guess i assumed he was asking if using any sbc roller lifter whether that be gen I, II or III in an engine that didn't originally come with them, which was the stance i took with my posts

im sure you could probably school me on some things about lifters but i dont really give a ****, but we can both agree you cant simply throw lifters in without link bars on a block that wasn't originally a roller motor

Guys Guys...sorry for the confusion and yet thanks for your posts.

Im looking at putting at new set of lifters in my LTx car in the sig. I see some labeled as fitting all SBC, LT, and LS based motors then some that say they do not. Just trying to make sense of it. Id like to put a quality OEM replacement style lifter in my LTx car.

After reading through the posts, it looks as though any roller lifter for an 89 and up would fit.

I see some LTx cars running LS6 lifters...which really made me wonder but I think I get it now.
