Default Help!!! no oil pressure with new motor!!

my motor was recently put together and it fired up with no problem and after letting the cam break in for a while the car was shut off. When the car was restarted suddenly it lost oil pressure and when the valve cover was removed there was no oil at the top end of the motor so obviously no oil was going through the motor. At first the oil pump was thought to have been the problem so my stock one was put back in but once again when it was started it had no oil pressure. So now we are trying to figure out what the problem is. The guy doing the install says he believes the plunger at the back of the block may have been removed and thats why the oil pressure suddenly dropped, does anyone have any ideas on what it could be??

That's a good place to start. Also, could be the plug @ the front end of that same oil galley. Most likely the rear plunger.

When you replaced the oil pump, did you pull out the O ring? I pulled my oil pan last week and, when I removed the pickup tube, I could not believe how bad the o ring looked. It was split and pulled down on the tube on the backside. Would have looked fine from the front. Car still made about 40 psi at cold idle. If the plunger was left out I don't think you would have made psi at all.

well he pulled the first pump and it was fine and then put in my stock one to see if the new one was faulty so honestly i doubt it is the oil pump considering we tried 2 different pumps

Is it a stroker? I've heard of people spacing the windage tray and bottoming out their pickup tube.

We'll let me tell you I was TRIPPING on the same problem when I first started MY new motor also. Had the motor running for 3-4 5 min intervals and still had no oil in the heads! I pulled the sender and checked my oil pressure, sure enough it was fine, but still no oil in the heads! Turns out gen 3 motors rought the oil through the oil cooler BEFORE cam bearings, pushrods, cyl heads! To sum it up I ran the car at 2500 for about 10m and FINALLY oil started coming out of the pushrods. I was TRIPPING the whole time but sure enough thats what it was... Maybe I used too much assembly lube? but wahtever, Check your oil pressure at the sender!
PEACE

Take a look at this thread https://ls1tech.com/forums/generation-iii-internal-engine/774926-help-no-oil-pressure-new-motor.html. Also, when you have a problem, try using Search First. There are very few topics that haven't been covered multiple times and search is working extremely well now.

Steve

I wish you the best in solving the problem.

Make sure you get the correct NEW o-ring for the oil pump to pickup tube. I believe that is where most of these problems originate.
