Bad's right. Goto your local parts store, take it off, and hand them that piece and say "I need some vacuum hose that size, that long."

Pay the $1.10 for it and put it on in the parking lot.

the idea of eliminating something rather than fixing it rarely flies with me.

it's a molded plastic hose

yes. i read that part.

replace it with a hose of the same diameter. rigid plastic is not important in this case.

do that, or just take the car to the junkyard.

He's right, molded or not doesn't matter in this instance. If it was going to be going by something really hot, that a flaccid rubber hose could rest on, sure it'd matter. I know exactly the piece you're talking about, and mine broke as well, so I cut out a section of it and had some non-hard clear plastic tube that was oddly enough the same ID (inner diameter) as the hard plastics OD (outer diameter), so I just slid it over both sides. Slightly disturbing part of the clear plastic is you can see the moisture of the vacuumed air :\

As far as junking that car, that's is quite extreme Bad. I'm a jerk to idiots too (after all, we had that heated debate), but telling someone to junk their car because they are new to the automotive world is just sheer impatience. For all he knew, there was some check valve inside the molded plastic, I dunno. He just wanted to make sure.

So like I said before Ricardo, you can either drive the car there and remove the piece and tell them that's what you need, and install the new rubber hose. Or take it off and drive another car and do the same thing, come back and put the hose on. Doesn't matter.

Hell, any rubber hose you have laying around will suffice really, as long as it has a good seal over the ports.

If you're redneck enough you could use a slightly bigger hose and put hose clamps over it lol http://mapage.noos.fr/gc13/x3dfx/kaboom.gif
