Default 01-02 Trans Am ?'s

Hey everybody ill be purchasing either an 01 or 02 Trans Am within the next couple weeks and a couple questions came to mind. I've heard of 01-02 LS1's having no A.I.R Pump and i was wondering if anyone could confirm this? Also i am wanting some opinions on M6 or A4. I have talked to a friend and he says he would go with an A4 or racing over an M6. I plan on racing it occasionaly so this is something else i wanted to know. Would you take an M6 or A4? Im not the best at driving, but seat time can change that. Well your opinions are appreciated. Thanks

M6...because they're more fun.

Also, you mentioned racing but not what kind.

I could live with an auto for drag racing but you need the 6-speed for road courses. Gives you more control of rpms and where to be in the powerband...especially exiting turns.

My nearest track is 175 miles away so ill go but not very much. No auto-x etc here probably just some street races and what not. Also looking for some good mpg when im just cruising(probably M6 for this). Anyway touch base back with me. Im really looking for some good opinions on this.

01's and 02's have AIR but no EGR. AIR pump only comes on at startup for a brief period and doesn't reaaly affect performance.

get a stick. shift your own gears, its MUCH more fun, and you become a better driver because of it. autos are more consistant and easier at the strip, but thats the only good point about them.

M6 gives good MPG. Going 75 at only 1700 RPM saves a lot of gas.

I agree it is funner. But then again i have my lazy days where i don't want to or am tired haha. Nothing better then rolling in 2nd gear high rpms listening to the exhaust rumble. Only thing is i would rather have an auto since im gunna race it.

A4 is proven more consistent for drag racing, but those M6 people will argue it every day, ..., (But since you are already an M6 owner, what do you think?)

A4 is my preference. "Punch it & steer, ..."

The rumor you heard is incorrect. It is the "EGR" stuff that was changed for the 01-02 models.

I own an A4 because i got a good deal on it, i was looking for a 6-speed.

It didnt really matter to me a whole lot, M6=better gas mileage and more fun.

But i do mostly drag racing so i figured an auto would be more consistant.

yep, no egr for me.

Since ill be using it for racing and for dd i may end up gettin an A4, UNLESS i find a great deal on an M6. I sold my M6 but i had a fun as hell time driving it. Thanks everyone for clearing up the EGR rumor.

I have an A4,I would rather have an M6 for sure! I got my car for free, for all the bonuses I didn't get that I was supposed to..One thing is for sure tho..I have 2:73's now,but putting 3:73's in an A4 makes it about as fun to drive as an M6...

I don't race, so I have no need for the "fastest" drive train configuration. An auto TA with a good exhaust does sound pretty good, but the manual tranny really trips my trigger. I prefer to be more involved in the driving and have more control over the engine speed. I will admit, if the TA i bought would have been an auto, I would have passed it up and continued looking.

Actually, my only gripe about my TA is that the stock exhaust is too quiet, but I really like the stock exhaust tips and don't want to lose them.
